Do you think I'll get in?

I'm from Texas

GPA is roughly a 3.6

SAT scores are 670 math, 610 reading, 660 writing, 11 on the essay.
27 composite on the ACT but I'm retaking it.

I was involved in the all state matching band for 3 years, played on the Drumline for 2 and was a leader for one (possibly the most demanding program at school, in the summer it's almost 60 hours a week).

I've been taking my schools engineering program for 3 years, will be 4 after next year.

I'm a junior about to be senior.

Hispanic American

One parent went to a 4 year private school

No legacy

I've been in UIL, Chess, debate, rocketry club.

I founded an aviation club with over 30 members, almost a dozen of which have flown private pilots lessons through the club. It has been recognized on tv and the papers. I am president of that also.

President of NTHS

I've been in NHS for 2 years.

Played in the jazz band.

Varsity swim team for two years

I've taken the hardest available classes all throughout highschool.

Top 12% of the class.

I started my own business on eBay

1st place state chess champ (back in middle school).

I have job experience with my parents' business, been working for over a year.

By the end of this summer hopefully ill have 200 hours of community service.

My GPA will be going up quite a bit senior year. Hopefully above a 4.0

Taking 7 AP classes next year, taken 4 so far

Law school is something I'm considering, my parents are pushing for med school so maybe that also.

Just tell me what you think of all this, what you'd recommend, and what my chances are. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

It depends on the major. If you are trying to major in business or engineering, it may be difficult because of the top 7% rule. That rule fills up about 75% of the class. I think you have a decent chance of getting into the school in general.

Engineering is possible, but I’m interested in Computer Science more. I really want to get in there, I know the engineering is very competitive though.

Your GPA and test scores are low so I think it may be tough to get admitted since you are not an auto-admit. Your leadership and EC’s are great. At a meeting with a UT adviser today he implied non auto-admits need an ACT of 33 or above to be competitive.

Since your GPA and class rank really won’t change by the time you apply the only thing you can work on is your test score and your essays. Get the test score up, nail the essay and you will have a good chance IMHO.

I really messed up the act and only got a 27. People tell me that’s good but I have a bad taste from it. I know I can do better. As far as SAT, I can do way better.
Don’t judge me, but for both of those tests I got less than 6 hours of sleep, got a lousy breakfast, and didn’t have a calculator. Yeah I know, what a slacker.
Either way, that will improve.
I’m confident on my essay writing skills because I got an 11 on the SAT essay and a 10 on the ACT essay. Something I’m actually proud of.

Those are very good writing scores so you should do well on the essays. Get the test scores up to a 32/2200 and your chances are good.

If you are transferring from High School, I have a feeling you will be offered CAP.

I think your math score is weak for engineering, but you seem like a well rounded student with lots of extracurricular activities/leadership. Auto-admit is the easiest way to do it, but since you’re in state you may have a chance. AP classes definitely help–my son got 25 hours credit, so he completed his first year of engineering just 5 hours short of being a junior. Best wishes.
