Do you think its strange when people refer to college students/freshman as "college kids."

I see many people tend to this? As a college student/freshman to be more exact, do you find it belittling?

If you feel belittled, feel free to pay all your expenses yourself.

My 85 year old mother in law still refers to my husband and I, and his siblings and their spouses as “kids.” And to her they/we are. Nothing to be offended about.

It’s just a shorthand. Try not to be offended, life’s tough enough.

No, I don’t find it belittling. I’ve seen very few people in college who DON’T act like “kids” in some way or another. I also don’t think people intend it to be patronizing; I think it’s meant to be more “endearing” than anything.

Freshmen are two to three months out of high school when they start. They’re lucky people call them college-anything.

I refer to the younger folks at work - interns, recent grads - as kids. Just as that term was used on me at the start of my career. It’s all about perspective. When you’re in your 50’s you’ll understand.

Another microaggression against our young adults.

Is there a word in the English language that doesn’t offend someone?

As a college student (soon to be junior), I still refer to students in my classes as “kids in my class” when talking to people, so do most of my friends. I think it’s because of several things, but mainly two reasons. One, it’s habit after saying it for 15 years of my life (pre-k through 12th). Two, were still students and not in the “real world” yet. I don’t really consider myself an adult, even though I’m 20 and most people in college still like to play and are still kids at heart, even if they’re legally adults. So definitely not belittling at all.

As a middle aged parent, I like it when someone calls me a kid. (@NorthernMom61 my MIL calls us kids too).

Oh give me a break about “microaggressions.” One 1 post poster says something and suddenly it’s a way to slam young people. It’s worth noting that everyone has disagreed with the OP but, you know, the ONE outlier clearly speaks for “young people.”

LOL! Now we have the microagression microagression. Is that a picoagression?

No offense @romanigypsyeyes. Stay a kid a bit longer and have some fun!

I guess some CC’ers have no sense of humor!
