Do you think # of hours of sleep NEEDED can partially account for academic success?

When you allocate only one or two hours of sleep to yourself you often end up more time trying to sleep than actually sleeping because you wonder if you will be able to sleep and if you do, if you can manage to wake up and feel refreshed. It just leaves you much more tired as you never get your actual sleep but a series of naps. In my case, lots of people take afternoon naps here after getting back home from school or work but with me, it only worked without upsetting my homework-school-tv thingy while I could do with less sleep.. that is the times I wasn't getting sick and feeling revived and energetic but lately it was making me not want to wake up at all till 11 PM. Then when I did wake up at 11 PM, if I had work to do, I'd want to sleep more and if I had free time... it'd take forever to fall asleep again so upsetting my hours.
