hey my friend does not have an account and she doesn't want to bother making one but she's applying to taft, i think, and she sings so I told her if they asked to send them a video, she should, of her singing. Well, anyway she was practicing one day and I recorded her and i told her later so she knows. So I was wondering if you guys could look at the video and tell her whether she should send in a video of her singing.
p.s: this is only practice
p.s.s: its not me, it really is one of my friends.

bump. bump. buuuump.

I don’t think your friend should send it now, because they are deciding applications and are too busy to see all the extra stuff.

I agree, I have thought about sending a video of my d’s dancing, that is her “hook” but since I didnt send it before say, october I figured it would not matter much…they are way too busy.

In her application it is clear that she has danced for 11 years, they have enough info

If they wanted more, they would have suggested an audition

alexz825mom - did your daughter sit in on any dance classes when she interviewed ay the schools, or were her interviews off campus?

at SPS she took the class, we had all our interviews on campus except NMH, we had it when they came to our city

I saw your post on the Deerfield thread and looked at your daughter’s stats that you posted earlier. I think she’ll have some good options in March. Best of luck to you and her.

creative1 thank you…but the stress is surely on, i didn’t know how much a “hook” played in the overall game.

Thou we contacted all the dance programs afterwords, we didn’t let them know before the interview that she was that strong, plus we are a minority that typically would not excel in classical ballet and pointe so I am not sure they know of her strength.

I wish i had found this site last year, i would have approached many things differently.

I think that if my d gets in anywhere, i shall become a private bs consultant, since i now know so much----lololol

hey bump… heres a vid she posted up yesterday
[me singing breakaway on Flickr - Photo Sharing!](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■/photos/47702601@N02/4371823824/)

well she would call them and ask before she sent anything in but she was wondering if she was good enough mostly… so it would be really appreciated if you guys could take a look at the vid

bumpitybump

I see a couple of you think that cd’s should be sent very early. I assumed that it would be fine to send them in January with the rest of the packet (clarinet, paintings). Was I wrong? Should we have sent them earlier?

I guess it’s too late now, but I’m curious how people decide to send in supplementary materials.

you can send stuff in even now - it would at the very least make people talk about you again. To the OP - your friend should only send in this cd if she has an formal singing experience - then she should send it in with a brief letter of recommendation to the taft chorus director, ccing the admission people. If she doesnt have that, then she shouldnt.
mama - you should send in supplementary materials with your apps or shortly after your apps have been submitted. However if you are going to use that experience as your “hook” then you should have been talking to the appropriate party in the school as early as May of the year before, certainly by September.

mhmm–yeah now i know that i should have done it…but being from the midwest where bs is for the super rich or the really terrible kid, i was somewhat in the dark :-(

I was no aware of the “hook” concept from the beginning, I thought smart, good test scores, good interview and community service would have been enough, ok i was wrong big time----lol

I wish we could have afforded a consultant but just not possible on my salary

The schools scream about diversity, but i am not sure they really mean it–well i won’t RANT here–lol

Is there a RANT thread???—lol

oh rant away, that is the true function of these boards. Please do not underestimate the power of being a minority (unless asian) - that is a major hook in itself.
