Do you think taking all online classes will be too difficult?

I plan on taking all online classes this upcoming Fall at my local community college. I’m looking to earn my Associate’s after this Fall.

The classes I plan on taking are: English 2, Political Science, Intro to Psychology, and Health & Wellness. The total amount of credits are 15-16.

The classes are all 8 weeks. They begin in October, and end in December.

I want to take them online, because I still don’t have my driver’s license or a car. I don’t want to have to rely on people to drive me around, catching the bus, and using Uber/Lyft.

I am looking to learn how to drive and obtain my driver’s license soon.

What do you guys think?

You should be fine as long as you stay on top of the work. It probably depends somewhat on the school, but I think online classes are generally easier if you are self-motivated.

Have you ever done this before?
8 weeks is half of the time a usual college class takes.
I am not sure I would take 4 at a time.
Are you someone who works well without the structure of a class?

How difficult is it to take a bus or get a ride?

@bopper

I’ve taken one online class during the summer after my first year. It was Philosophy. I enjoyed it. I loved how flexible it was, I liked how you get to teach yourself a bit, etc. The class was an 8-week course.

Now that I think about, taking four 8 week courses may not be a good idea. It’ll probably be too stressful. I may just split it to two in the Fall, then two in the Winter. Then I’ll have my Associate’s after the Winter.

I don’t really have anyone to drive me around because everyone works. My dad could do it, but it’ll be too much of a burden for him because the community college is not on his way to his job.

I could catch a bus, but I would rather take the classes online so I won’t have to travel.

I’ve been taking all online classes for a couple semesters now (mostly 16-week classes) + summer (2 8-week classes). It really depends on the class, if you struggle with the subject already or not, how much free time you have, your motivation level, etc…

I love online classes because if a lot of work has already been posted to do, I will find the time to just sit down and knock it out. Everyone is different with their work ethics, responsibilities, and time management though.
Honestly, even I wouldn’t take 4 8-weeks. Because that is half a semester to get a semester’s worth of material completed…4 times. I struggled a little this summer with the 2 8-weeks I took because they were in my worst subjects (math and history) and involved a lot of work.

You’re already close to your degree, so I wouldn’t think dropping a couple would hurt. Maybe next semester they will offer a 16-week class.

Good luck with everything. You seem very determined and positive! I wish you the best.

4 8-week courses is going to be a lot of work. If high grades are important to you, I would split it into two for your GPA as well as your mental health’s sake.

I’ve never known anyone who’s successful taking more than 3 8wk courses at once. But I’d go with 2 in case you have any other responsibilities such as working.

I’d double-check with the U that you’re planning to transfer to, so you have some assurance your courses will give you transfer credit. For my relative only her online class was NOT accepted for transfer credit but her classroom courses were. She asked and used this info so she’d transfer in as many credits as possible.
