My little sister told me that on Friday, one of her teachers announced to the class that because they were now in 8th grade, they were too old to go trick or treating. I don't agree with her teacher and it makes me kind of sad that 8th grade is now too old. When did you guys stop trick or treating?

No, I don’t think so. I went trick-or-treating in 8th grade. In fact, I wore my best/most creative costume that year (I was a box of popcorn).

Na I’m goin

I’m a junior in high school and will probably end up trick-or-treating. Just the way it goes.

daughter is a senior in HS, older daughter is a junior in college…both have gone every year since they were old enough to sit in a stroller…albeit now, they go whereever they may be at the time…

I know! I reminded her that I still go trick or treating…but it still doesn’t convince her. Poor baby sis : [
@Rodney: a junior in college? Now that is commitment!

This is what I’ve noticed.

Elementary School - 7th grade: Innocent trick or treeting
7th - 9th grade: People think they’re too cool to trick-or-treet.
9th grade - 12th grade: Many girls start dressing in sexually provocative (w00t) costumes to go to Halloween parties with dudes

Free candy. What’s not to love?

another note: one of the colleges we looked at advertised that the kids go trick or treating in the local neighborhood; now that I recall, it was American…the students go trick or treating on Embassy Row in DC…

This reminds me of when Sean Hannity said Halloween was a ‘socialist’ holiday and kids getting free candy teaches them to be liberals.
LOL.

^^ good ol’ Fox News

Age progression: Trick-or-treat with parents –> Trick-or-treat with friends –> Halloween Party –> Not celebrate
(and ‘give out candy’/‘watch horror movie or TV special’ almost anywhere in between)

But in my opinion high schoolers definitely can still fall in the middle range. If your sister thinks she’s too old to get free candy, her loss.

At this age, no one trick-or-treats for “real”. Everyone just gets their friends over, dresses up in goofy power ranger and lady gaga costumes and runs around the neighborhood.

I’ll try to get my friends over and relax but many of them are too serious about college now.

My mom doesnt want me to go this year. I dont think parents should stop you from going. The best part is getting all the leftover candy when you go around really late. I think its funny when people put the bowl on their porch with a note and say please take one. I think maybe when you are 16, then you are suposed to go to halloween parties and thats ok i guess.

Sounds about right. But I never went trick-or-treating with my parents, the few times I went were with my friends or my older brother and his friends.
Isn’t 8th grade 13 year olds? In my opinion, a 13 year old is still quite a child, and children should go. So have fun!

^She is 14 actually but ya I agree…Apparently a mother of one of her classmates complained to the school about it sooo…

Its defs not too old I’m a 16 year old junior and I’m planning on trick or treating :)

~UPDATE~
GOOD NEWS: My family spoke to her (almost like a mini intervention haha) about her dilemma and she IS going!!! I am relieved because if she did not go trick or treating this year, I knew she would regret it!

BAD NEWS: She is going as Snooky (I think that’s her name) from some reality show and the costume is ridiculous.

Thanks for all your words of wisdom!

In my city, 16-year-olds and older are banned from trick-or-treating, lol.

Yeah, there are some older dudes that try to steal your candy and stuff, but usually theres alot of parents outside too. I think everyone should be allowed to go out until the are 16. I am going out even if my mom says i cant.
