<p>Residence: NYC</p>
<p>High School: I don't go to a rich private school or a top public high school or anything like that. I go to an inner-city high school. It HAS sent SOME students to top schools such as NYU, Cornell, and Columbia, but maybe one ivy each year and about 4 NYU acceptances a year, just to name a few schools.</p>
<p>Ethnicity: Puerto Rican (URM)</p>

<p>GPA: 89.05% unweighted (my transcript has a VERY good upward trend, 87% in 9th grade to 91% in 10th to 94% in 11th, and still going strong this year, even though AP Chem is killing me.)</p>
<p>Rank: 58/448 top 12%-ish? :T</p>
<p>SAT & SAT2: I have taken them, but they're horrendous.</p>
<p>ACT (these are a bit better): October: 25 - TERRIBLE I know, it's like a 1710ish (I managed to get a 10 Essay though? LOL) --- December: I just took it on Saturday, do you think if I get maybe a 27-28 maybe it'll help? Would a 25 definitely be an automatic rejection?</p>
<p>Courseload: Junior Year: AP English Language-3, AP US History-4, Honors Chemistry, Journalism, Italian, Intermediate Strings, Trigonometry. Senior Year: AP Government, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, AP English Literature, and ANOTHER Science- Biology (not AP,) Advanced Strings, and Advanced Italian (I have a REALLY long schedule compared to the other Seniors in my school, I wanted to make up for my 9th and 10th grade schedules). I did NOT have Honors my freshman and sophomore year but I WAS recommended my freshman year and finally fully recommended my sophomore year. I think my counselor addresses my attempt to have rigor in my courses. My teachers really started to realize that I DID NOT belong in regular classes.</p>
<p>Awards: REACH Scholar Award - This is a special organization in partnership with certain high schools in the NYC area that award students with money and AP prep for achieving a 3 or higher on AP exams. They have this big ceremony and what not and award us a check and this "Scholar" title. Honor Roll for four years making my way up from Bronze to Silver honor rolls. NYSSMA Competition Silver Award with my String Orchestra held at NYU which I was first chair of the cello section. It's apparently rare for a group of students who have only been playing for 2 years to win a Silver on their first try so</p>
<p>Extra Currics/Leadership roles: School Newspaper: Editor-in-Chief; National English Honor Society: Vice President; Tri-M Music Honor Society: Vice-President Candidate,Member; Co-President of Quill & Scroll: Journalism Honor Society; String Orchestra: Secretary, Cello for 3 years and First-Chair; Member of National Honor Society.</p>
<p>Services/Work Experience: The bulk of my community service hours derives from honor societies, especially NHS. I've done community service with NHS such as city walks and holding penny drives, food drives, and toys for tots. I conduct a Christmas card-making event with NEHS to provide cards for children in nearby hospitals. My Freshman year I donated to an animal shelter to help stray animals living on the streets by supplying them with---well, supplies, this gave me a total of 10 hours of community service hours. And finally, last summer I worked @ the Queens Library.</p>
<p>Recommendations/Essay: 2 teachers, I'm sure they will be very good, I think they spoke about my superior writing ability. My main essay will be about my passion for literature and how teaching a child to read at the library emphasized that passion. My Supplement essay will be good, and I'm making a video for the YourSpace section of me acting out a scene from a movie ;p</p>
<p>I know I have about NO chance of getting into Vassar, but I just really love the school and don't want to ever wonder "what if?" if I don't apply at all. Do you think by some MIRACLE that they like my essays, yourspace, ECs, and the fact that I'm a URM help me get in? Or are my standardized tests and GPA too low to even be given a serious consideration?</p>
