Gpa?

Hi, everyone! I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks but I got tired of just reading and not participating. I am SO in love with Vassar-- I visited on Veteran's Day and am applying EDII...really, I'll just die if I don't get in.

Which is unfortunate because I am concerned that I won't. My main concern is my GPA-- I think that the math part of my brain is completely atrophied, and my grades certainly reflect that. However, I'm clearly an English person- I'm the head editor of my school's newspaper, I'm a research assistant for an English professor at NYU, my grades are much better in English and I got a 750 verbal on the SAT. Regardless, my GPA is somewhat low (about a B average) because of a D+ and couple of Cs that I've gotten in various math classes over the years.

If I'm presenting myself as an English student and journalist who has absolutely no interest in pursuing the sciences, do you think that I still have a chance at getting in? I'm also having a staunch Vassar supporter whose kids went there write me an additional rec. Thinking about this really gives me chest pain. Thanks in advance for your help and congratulations to everyone who got in early!!

We have very similar stats. I also have a fairly low gpa, and I also suck at math. My SAT score shows this (800v 620m), and so does my transcript... I'm also having a Vassar alum whom i'm very good friends with write me a rec. I'm not too interested in English though...I'm more of a history/political science person.

Id say I was in the same position in that I stink at math because my SAT scores in math were 500 and 550 and my SAT II in Math I was 520 but I actually did pretty well in classes, with averages in the mid to low 90s.

The only thing I'd be concerned for both of you is too make sure that this letter of reccomendation from a friend have some like merit to it and not just be a letter from a friend. You dont want to send them a ton of things that say the same things or worse, say nothing at all.

I'm not worried about the letter. The two people writing it were on the admissions committee up until a year or two ago, and these people really do know me very well.
