Do you want a roommate in college? Why or why not?

Do you want a roommate when you go to college? If you do, why and what kind of person would you like to room with, and if not, what are your reasons?

I personally do NOT want a roommate. I'm really particular about how things are and I don't really like living really close with people. Maybe if we shared an apartment, but definitely not a tiny dorm. And plus i've heard wayyyyy too many horror stories from my sister and her friends. I really want a single with a private bathroom!

I’m staying near home for college - so I’ll be chillin’ with my 'rents.

I’m a really light sleeper and I have a weird sleep schedule. I also like having the bathroom to myself. However, I think having a roommate might be kind of fun, since I don’t have any brothers and sisters and never shared a room before.

@renoverchat - Consider yourself lucky.

You don’t always get a choice in whether you have a roommate or not, it depends on the college. And it is usually a valuable experience to learn how to live with another person.

@Scutrules At the school I’m going to, we have the option of a single, double or triple for our freshman year and all those plus the choice of living in on or off campus apartments for the rest of the years, and thats true, but idk… I just couldn’t…

^
Sure you could. Sharing a room = first world problem.

As for me, I don’t really care either way.
Biologically I’m an only child, but I was in foster care for several years and I shared a room with two other girls. So I’m used to both sharing and not sharing a room.

IT’S COLLEGE! Of course I would want a roommate, it’s part of the experience. I love meeting new people and all that good stuff. I’m not the type of person who is really picky about these things. I would be perfectly fine with a person who’s messy lol. I’ve shared a room with my brother like all my life so I’m use to it. He’s in college now, so I have the room to myself, the total man-cave.

I personally think it would be better for me to be in a single. I too am very particular about my things, and while I do have three sisters I’d probably be the one to drive my roommate crazy because I just don’t put up with much.

YES, I WANT A ROOMMATE. Oh my Lord…

I do want a roommate. In my mind roommate=instant friend.

Of course I could, but I wouldn’t want to. I had to share a room with my siblings and that totally ruined my outlook on roommates for life. And plus, anytime family from out of town comes to visit, my mom insists that they all sleep at our house, which happens really often. Imagine a family of four PLUS a family of five in a three bedroom house. shudders at the memories
