Should I live in a single room?

I'm starting college next fall and my mom is letting me choose what kind of room I want to live in, which includes a single room. I know most people recommend having a roommate your freshman year, but I had a roommate at a program this summer, and decided it's not all it's cracked up to be. Maybe it was just the roommate herself; our senses of humor didn't relate, she gave me the cold shoulder the entire time, and we felt awkward around each other. Part of that might have been that the program was only three weeks long, so maybe she just didn't see the point in getting to know each other like a roommate I'd have the whole year might do. Then again, she might not. I feel like unless me and my roommate become absolute BFFs, I'd just go to a single room my sophomore year anyways, just like my sister did. I just don't want to repeat history.
