They don't have the reading list up for the class when I check it, but I see a lot of upperclassmen selling DOC1 Bundle or Reader for fairly cheap. I'm wondering, do the books for the class change every year? What about the reader?

There’s a preliminary book list up on University Readers, which is where you buy your DOC books:

Dimensions of Culture: Diversity (this is the reader)
A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America by Takaki
Easy Writer with 2009 MLA and 2012 APA Updates

I would buy Takaki’s book for cheap from an upperclassman. The writing reference is different from Fall 2010 (don’t know about Fall '11, and frankly I never used it). The bulk of the reader remains the same, but they do add/delete articles so buying it used is a risk. If you do buy the reader used, I would try to get the cleanest and/or cheapest copy available and be prepared to borrow a friend’s reader for the new articles. If you want price points, the DOC readers were sold (for the '10-'11 school year) by themselves for around $70-90 each.

I’m glad you asked this question – between the DOC staff that constantly remind freshmen to not buy used and the sellers on fb marketplace wanting to make an extra buck the people that lose out are the freshmen.

Thanks momosky. That was a very informative answer. :)
