hi 10s and 9s and 8s and.............
could u just let me know how much would the DOC thing cost?
Moreover how much would a week of eating in Hanover (without Dartmouth provided food) would cost?
Thanks in advance
Please please reply fast.....
International air tickets to be bought accordingly

You will be mailed information regarding the DOC trip and the cost in June. I know that Dartmouth does make the trip very affordable (less than200 whn my D went) so that no student is turned away because of an inability to pay. When you get your package and you find that the trip is unaffordable just contact them and they will work with you.

the DOC trip leaders are cephalopods

they will want to eat your brain

seriously, when you get there, scream at them

ARE YOU A MOBSTA OR ARE YOU A LOBSTA

...they'll understand.

Does anyone know what choices there are for DOC trips? Are they all the same?

n-mom:

check under Leaders, and you can see what is offered this year, and when.

thank you, I had no idea.

There is a DOC trip for everyone. As absurd as it sounds, lots of people actually choose the leisurely hiking option (the trip where the hikes are optional), because they want to go on a DOC trip but they don't want to do anything.

Can anyone tell me about the fishing trip. S is very into fly fishing and thinks he'll meet others who fly fish regularly. I'm afraid it'll be bamboo poles and bobbers.

What about white water kayaking; that's his second choice? Will there be enough water so late in the summer?

He's big into wilderness experiences, and will want something that is very challenging, but will allow him to meet others with same interests.

He's gone all summer, so signing up for this trip (along with housing, classes, etc.) is my new job.

nervousmom: the trip info is online today....

Yes, I've seen the online info. I was just hoping to hear from a student who has actually been on one of these trips for input.

DOC trips are a lot of fun. They are a wonderful way to meet some upperclassmen right away, see the beautiful New Hampshire scenery, and get too know your fellow '10s. Your 'trippees' will be your first friends and it is nice to start school already knowing some people.

All the trips are great and I have heard many good things about each. Just make sure what you are choosing is what you really want. People might have a laugh or two the first week of school if you tell them that you did leisurely hiking, but this trip, as well as organic farming and nature photography, are great for experiencing nature without being too taxing on the body.

I did easy hiking, which I certainly didn't find 'easy.' After running track and cross country during my senior year, I thought I'd still be in shape for my DOC trip even if I didn't work out at all during the summer. WRONG. I bet they will change the difficulty of some of the hikes, because I didn't find 8 miles up and down mountains completed in only half a day very easy. The trip was still a lot of fun though -- seeing the forests and rivers, making burritos, snacking on the traditional cabot cheese, playing games, sleeping under the stars, making friends.

Even if you request another trip like whitewater rafting, about half of everyone gets hiking. If you're an avid hiker, why not request the strenuous trip? If not, go for leisurely or easy. If you did sports and continued to work out over the summer, I bet you'll do fine on moderate. No matter what trip you are placed in, though, you are guaranteed a great time so no worries!
