Dod-merb

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what triggers the DOD-MERB physical process and how does it happen? I have heard that having either 4 or 5 of your applications items processed caused DOD-MERB to kick in but if so I guess my question then becomes when and how does this occur? Is it an e-mail from someone to start the process or is any action required by the candidate to being the process? Any replies appreciated in advance. Thanks.

Wow. I actually don't remember! It happened automatically. I think the application has to be 50% done. Whether through the mail or through the online application, it wasn't something we initiated. It just happened next.

Not alot of help--but just keep the process going, and the next step becomes evident at the right time.

Good luck!

Once a high school candidate has submitted any 5 of the 9 (50%) required application documents, USNA will contact DodMERB and they will, in turn, contact the candidate to schedule the medical exam.

All of the Academies and ROTC use DoDMERB. They all have different criteria for initiating the DoDMERB process. USNA sends a candidates name when the application is 50% complete. (another reason to get started early!)

If another program has already initiated the process then DoDMERB will just add USNA to the list and make the candidates info available to them.
If not, then the candidate is entered into DODMERB.
The name is sent to Concorde, Inc who is a sub-contractor to perform the physical.
Concorde, Inc then in turn notifies the candidate that they must make arrangements for the physical and eye exam. Once the physical is received by Concorde, Inc, they process it and upload it to DoDERMB. They have 30 days to get it to DoDMERB but it often goes quicker than that.

In Concorde, Inc, notification to you they will send you the name of the agency you are to call for the physical. Sometimes it is a local physician other times it is a clinic. In our area they use a local occupational health clinic that was a walk-in - very convenient! Often times the eye exam will be a different provider.

Once enough application information has been submitted, and USNA has entered your candidate into "the system," Concorde will send a letter to your candidate. The letter will direct you to one or more physicians in your area who are contracted to carry out physicals and/or eye exams. Your candidate will be able (if you have access) to schedule appointments and fill out questionnaires about medical history on-line. There will also be forms in the letter that your candidate should take to the exams for the doctor to fill out and submit.

Get everything (enough application to get in the system and medical) done ASAP. If there is any chance that your candidate could require a waiver, the medical process can easily take longer than anything else.

Good luck!

Thanks much all!! She is past the point of having five items complete so she should be hearing something soon!! Thanks again!!
