Medical Exam

Has anyone had their medical exam with DodMERB yet? Is there any way I can shedule that or do I have to wait for the admissions people to send me the appt.?

They will contact you directly...you can't just "set it up."

They typically send it once they determine you're competitive. Have you opened a file online? Given them SAT and academic info?

Is it possible to get medical exam from my own doctor?

i would say no

they will send you to a specified physican in your area ...not your own personal physician ...you will need specific paperwork that usma will send

rty's correct. They'll tell you where to go and what to get done.

Yep,

My son just took his physical this week. Here is an approximate timeline as best as I can remember:

1st of May - completed preliminary application to USNA
28 May - received letter from USNA w/ candidate number
18 June - Received postcard in the mail from DodMERB - called number on card and DodMerb said they would send a packet in the mail w/ instructions.
10 July - Packet Shows up. Contains forms and the names, addresses and phone numbers to schedule appt with civilian contractor.
18 July - Took Physical, Hearing and eye exams.

If you are a female, the instuctions said the pelvic exam could be taken by your own physician at your own expense, but the physical itself had to be taken by the DoDMERB person/contractor. Guys don't need a pelvic exam so it is N/A for them.

The civilian Doctor only offered walk-in service, so there was virtually no waiting period to get the physical scheduled. Sometimes you are to report to a military base, but that is not up to you.

The DoDMERB contractor that son was sent to offered appointments within a week. However, "it will only take about an hour" was the big joke. Appointment was for 9am. Son saw the doctor about 1:45 and ended up missing the entire day of school.

If you need to have any remedial exam's, you can go to your own doctor, but you have to pay for it then.

The contractor i went to was pretty good. You didnt even schedual an appointment. They were open to 1am (something that kinda scared me) but when i walked in, i filled out the history and medical conditions chart, waited about 5 minutes, saw the tech for about 10 minutes, waited another 5 minutes then had the rest of the exam. Less than an hour the entire experience! Though the time i would spend dealing with DoDMERB and such late on down the road would FAR balance it out :-P
