Dodge Applicants!

So I applied to the Dodge film school as a broadcast journalism major! Anyone else apply to Dodge? Lets talk!

I applied to Film Production. If I don’t get into NYU ED, then Chapman is my #1.

I applied to film production too… now i’m just waiting like everybody else.
Some good news already, i just got accepted to LMU Film Production

That’s great news, tzfilm!

thanks oregonmom :D

I also applied to both Chapman and LMU. At first I was debating if I liked LMU or Chapman better because even though I liked the program and everything at Chapman more, I was worried about post-graduation credibility. Then I heard more and more about Chapman’s great reputation in LA and how its name is growing, and now Chapman is def higher in my books.

Congrats on LMU!
I’m applying there as well but I still like Chapman better. I took a tour of Dodge and has all the latest equipment. Definitely the place to be :)

thanks, anybody else here also apply to USC?

I’m applied ED to NYU so this all may go for naught but I applied to (in addition to LMU and Chapman) Emerson and USC as well.

I’m visiting USC, Chapman and LMU over break in a few weeks. I don’t think Dodge sends out decisions until Feb at the soonest, right?

Yes. Last year, my DS received the acceptance around Feb/Mar. Chapman was DS #1 choice. DS is a freshman and already got an internship offer from a production company. Good luck!

thanks, that’s good to know. I’ve already been accepted at LMU for film production, but really interested in Chapman also, so glad to hear she likes it.

Congratulations on LMU, tzfilm! Did you apply much earlier than their EA deadline of Nov 1?

Those reviews are just opinions. You will find positive and negative opinions for other universities as well. A student will do well when they make the most of it no matter the college. Chapman is an academic school, not a party school. If they want a high quality education, then Chapman is the place. If they just want to party and drink, then Chapman is not for them. Some students may feel like they’re in high school because it is a smaller school compared to the larger schools. Some people like smaller schools and some don’t. Some people like warm weather and some like cold weather.

My DS is enjoying Chapman. It is never boring, projects all the time. DS also has a part-time job. There is Disneyland near by, so much to do for entertainment. I don’t see how anyone can get bored there. From what I’ve heard, the professors at Chapman really care about the students. If a student gets sick, they have no problem with you taking time off to get well, as long as you notify them via email, etc. Some other schools, you’re not allowed to get sick. If you do, you will need to retake or be dropped from the class. However, Chapman does require the students to attend class every day. This is what they told us during family orientation.

There is a reason why Chapman is rising in the ranking. The quality of the professors and students. There are kids there that could have gone to USC, UCB, UCLA, UCI, etc., but they didn’t. They like Chapman better.

…this mom is a little anxious to know if d will hear soon. :)

Hi Ocelite, I was wondering if your DS has any opinions on the Creative Producing pgm at Chapman. It sounds pretty new.

I applied for Creative Producing… I’ve heard very good things about Dodge, but couldn’t find many opinions on this particular major. Anyone have any extra info?

Hello Bigmamabear, DS thinks every program at Dodge is a good program. That is why it is hard to get in. If you would like more information about their programs, go to the Chapman website, and go to the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts page, and look under programs. The following is what their webpage shows for Creative Producing. Hope this helps.

B.F.A. Creative Producing
Learn the business behind the business. You will become skilled at scouting locations, managing a budget, and handling casting; and that’s just the beginning.

You’re not exactly a control freak, but you do like to be in charge. And while you consider yourself creative, you don’t exactly hang with the fringe. Truth be told, you like working with numbers. But more than anything, you want to be a part of the Hollywood scene.

Creative Producing combines basic creative skills with the business, legal and organizational aspects of the entertainment industry.
As a producer, you’d be involved in:
• Identifying marketable creative content — for TV pilots, feature films, etc.
• Securing the rights to that creative material
• Procuring financing to fund projects
• Finding distributors to release projects
• Organizing, budgeting and scheduling productions
• Assembling a team and collaborating with key creative artists to execute a collective vision
• Overseeing the entire process — from pre- to post-production and beyond
A B.F.A. in Creative Producing from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts can prepare you for a career in production and distribution for the film and television industry. Along with a broad liberal arts education, you’ll gain a fundamental understanding of the key components of creative producing, including:
• Storytelling and script development
• The entire production process
• Financing, marketing, distribution and exhibition
• Entertainment law
• Domestic and international cinema
And when you leave us, you’ll have in hand a fully developed portfolio including a film or media production you’ve personally produced as well as a thesis book for a proposed film or media production — including detailed plans for rights acquisition, story development, pitching, budgeting, packaging, marketing, distribution and exhibition — to showcase your abilities and help you get your foot firmly in the door.

Thanks, Ocelite. I am wondering how this relatively new program came about. Is it because of industry feedback? Or because of the vast number of students they have to turn away from the film production program? Just wondering if any insider has any inside scoop on why they started offering the creative producing program.

Hello, does anyone know when acceptance letters start rolling out for Dodge?
