Dodge College of Film & Media Arts Transfer Question!

Hello everyone, I am currently at a California community college near San Francisco and am hoping/planning to attend the Fall 2012 semester at a four-year Southern California college after transfer.

I am currently researching CSUs, UCs and private schools in the LA region and came across Chapman University. The college looks great! And would love to attend, if I'm admitted that is!

While looking through the different schools within Chapman, I came across the Dodge College of Film & Media Arts. I was looking at the list of majors the school provides and became interested in the BFA Screen Acting degree.

In Chapman's online transfer brochure it doesn't state any prerequisites for the any major in the school, all it states is that in order to apply for admission to Dodge you "must submit a departmental application and departmental supplemental materials." What exactly does this mean?

Also, the BFA Screen Acting degree in the transfer brochure is listed under both the Dodge College of Film & Media Arts AND the College of Performing Arts (CPA). Under the transfer requirements for this major for Dodge it doesn't state that this degree needs an audition but only to submit "a departmental application and departmental supplemental materials." But under the transfer requirements for CPA it states that you do need an audition in addition to "a departmental application and departmental supplemental materials." Why is this degree listed under two different schools within the university? And what school's requirements should I follow?

Can someone please help me out!

You should definitely speak to admissions.
As for Screenacting, you’ll want to either apply under a COPA major or a Dodge major, and then after one year at Chapman you will need to apply for the Screenacting major.

The Chapman/Dodge screenacting major is brand new. I believe it’s the only college in the region offering an acting major designed directly for camera, as compared to on stage. The techniques differ, in some cases.

If the school’s administrative entryway pathways are confusing, keep that in mind; be patient, and don’t be discouraged from what you wish to explore.

Perhaps you can keep us posted here how it goes for you. Anyway, best of luck in your search!

Dear shaunsheezy,

Thank you for your interest in Chapman University and Dodge College! Students wishing to major in Screen Acting should start in either Dodge or COPA in the major of their choice, and then audition for the Screen Acting degree in Dodge College. It’s easier for freshmen to do this, but tends to be a bit more complicated for transfers to do this. As a transfer, you will have to fill out the common application, which you can find here: [Chapman University - Admission - UG - Common Application](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Page Not Found | Chapman University) and then you will also need to fill out the departmental application for either COPA or Dodge. These applications evaluate talent and can be found here: [Chapman University - Admission - UG - Common App - Dept Applications](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Page Not Found | Chapman University) If you would like a direct contact, please email the Dodge College advisor, Joe Barrett, at jbarrett@chapman.edu We hope that this information makes the process a bit easier for you!
