DoDMERB

For the DoDMERB what do they generally look at for disqualifications? I know I've had asthma as a younger child, but I'm perfectly fine now and I feel that I've out grown it. Do they look at this as a possible disqualification? Same goes for allergies, due to my asthma I underwent allergy tests and they came up negative. Do they look at the fact that I had to take allergy tests and automatically disqualify me or do they see the fact that they came out negative? All help is appreciated.

I am in a similar situation to yours; I had asthma when I was younger, but I'm fine now. DoDMERB is very black and white and they will DQ you if you have any diagnosis of Asthma after your 13th birthday in your medical records.

Here is how it went in my case:
I got my medical tests done and DoDMERB requested my medical records from present to birth (standard protocal if there is some history of asthma.) After sending in 2lbs of information I received a DQ because I had been prescribed a asthma medication after my 13th birthday (even though I hadn't used my medication since the age of 12.) I have just recently gone to the doctor to have him send a letter to help my chances of getting a waiver.

If you have further DoDMERB questions, I suggest you post them over on www,serviceacademyforums.com (there is a retired DoDMERB examiner there.)

Thanks, so it appears that I'll be getting a DQ as well.(I've been prescribed asthma medications, haven't touched them though.) We'll see and thanks for your help.

I got DQ'd for my braces........ They look for anything that might limit you. But after making a few phone calls, and getting a letter from my orthodontist, I was granted a waiver. If braces were the reason I'd be DQ'd I would have taken the wire cutters to them and gotten them out myself. Make sure you keep hounding them until you receive your waiver and good luck.

Thanks, I'm only a sophomore right now, I'm looking down the road and want to have the best game plane ready for when I do apply.

Very, very smart, DolCi.

Stick around and you'll learn a lot. Also, Ben is correct about the DoDMERB board at serviceacademyforums.com. You'll find valuable info.

I checked it out and got a very good answer from one of the members, again, thanks to ALL!
