Does a B affect my chances to get into an Ivy League?

Does a B in Enriched Algebra 2 in my sophomore year affect my chances of getting into an Ivy League college? I am currently sitting at a B for my semester grade but idk how I’m supposed to bring it up because my teacher doesn’t really teach us. He proceeds to quiz us every other day while only going over new lessons and expects us to retain the information in 1-2 days. Since our school is online schooling now (due to covid) the class is really stressful and affecting my overall semester grade. I feel like each quiz just drops my grade bit by bit. I used to be an A student when I was in school but now it just seems hopeless. Is there any way that I can explain in my essays in the future when I apply?

Do not explain a B; it will be perceived as whining.

The short answer is don’t get a B. And never blame the teacher; Ivy League colleges do not spoonfeed their students. There are plenty of online resources available to fill in the gaps. Everyone is dealing with COVID and many are still getting an A in math.

A B will not keep you out of an Ivy League.

Remote learning is difficult on many students. Look for ways your can succeed and do better. There are online videos you can find for every math topic under the sun. Unfortunately, it would require more screen time, but it might help you master the material.

You definitely don’t want to fall behind, but remember, you are not the only one struggling. Also ask your teacher to “meet” with them and seek help. Does your school have peer tutoring, or other means to seek help. You don’t want to get into a hole that you can never dig out of.

Go for a walk and get some fresh air and get some exercise while you can to prepare mentally as well for your remote learning.

You have very little chance of getting into an Ivy even if you get an A. One B isn’t going to really make a difference.
But as others have said, everyone is in the same situation right now and colleges want to see students who self advocated and succeeded.

This is the best response and a great way of looking at things! Sadly.

Right. Most of the Ivys have a single digit acceptance rate. Thousands of perfect A students are rejected every year.
