I’m currently a sophomore in high school and am about to end the first semester with a B/B+ in enriched algebra 2. Will this affect my chances of getting into an Ivy League? I know that there are much more important factors other than grades, such as essays and ECs. But I also had a B+ in freshman year for physical science, after I took the finals for semester 1 (before I took the final I had a A-). My physical science teacher required every one of his students to take the final, thus I ended first semester with a B+, which could’ve been a A- if I had not taken that final. So my looming question is, what grades do universities look at: semester, quarter, or final grades? And would it affect my transcript and my chances of getting accepted if I did decide to apply with a few Bs (currently I have 2). Any tips on how I can overcome the “weeding elimination” of the Ivy League admissions process? I did however end my freshman year with all As as the final grade (semester 1 and 2 combined).
I really need some guidance, any advice/tip that you know of may help! I am curious and am asking from a first-gen pov cause my parents are immigrants and nobody in my family has gone to college and knows about the college admissions process.
