Does a nice-looking campus = quality education ?

*Like to get everyone's opinion on: *

Nice looking school makes the school better ? Students learn better ?

-and the corollary-

Ugly campus, bad location = bad school ?

I mean parts of MIT and some areas around Berkeley are depressing. Yet a MIT / Berkeley degree does not hurt anyone's career drive. Yet student from Beautiful school (fill in your choice), are they the better for it ?

No, a nice looking campus doesn't mean a great education. Sure if you are in a beautiful environment I'm sure people's attitude's would be better and people would generally be in better moods. The trees and greenery don't give you that education its the professors and student body and resources that do.

That is why MIT although it may have a dated looking campus produces some of the best minds in the world.

Oh yeah obviously....

???

I think a nice campus might not further your intellectual goals in life, but it does lift your mood and make your fours years much more pleasant. Given the choice between two equally prestigious schools, I'd choose the one with a much better campus.

i hope you were joking yourworld.

Btw, my high school is ranked as the best in the nation, and it looks like utter ****.

What high school do you go to, Pyr ?

The only way that I can see a correlation is that a nicer campus may signal a bigger endowment, which generally means a better education.

A nice campus does not CAUSE a better education though.

Is the reverse true, ugly surrounding demotes learning ?

Berkeley is the most beautiful college campus I've seen. I chose it over a crop of other schools, and I dont regret it. I do admit that some of the laboratories are old, but they're acceptable and will perform just as well as any other laboratory.

I think you can get a great education anywhere- provided you put in the nessecary time and effort. Everyone is so concerned over where they'll get the best education, but to be honest, most of your education depends on you, not your professors.

I personally would never go to an ugly prestigious school. If that means choosing a less prestigious but more beautiful university, then so be it- there's no way I'm going to suffer for four years in a horrible location.

In general, I think students might not learn more at a beautiful campus, but they'll sure be happier for it.
