Does a reeeeaaallly late midyear report kill me?

I found out today that my counselor hasn't sent in my midyear report yet...

Will this really delayed sending affect my chances anywhere? Regular decision colleges/rolling admissions colleges (mcgill, michigan + cornell)?

Today I got an email from u chicago saying they needed it... does this mean anything?

If UChicago emailed and said they needed it, they mean they need it ASAP because it is now reviewing files for admission and making decisions and they want your mid-year report before making a decision. Likewise, you need to get it to Cornell pronto as it has started review and making decisions. Don’t know anything about McGill. Michigan does not require mid-year reports --you simply send them whatever transcript exists (through at least junior year) when you apply. If you have yet to send any transcript then you better have it sent immediately because reality is that Michigan, which has a form of rolling admissions, has already made most of its decisions and anyone getting their needed initial transcript in now is going to be at a significant disadvantage; if you already sent the transcript with grades through junior year when you applied then you have no issue.

I’m having the same problem at a few other schools. I hope we’re okay! :)

It means you need to send it ASAP.

I know… Im working on it, the guidance office at my school ****ed up (aaaaagggaaaaiiinnn). I was just wondering if this is gonna hurt my chances at most or any schools?

I don’t think it’ll hurt as long as you get it in within a week or two. I really don’t know, though.

mcgill? as in montreal, canada?
you dont need a midyear report as far as i know… but maybe its different for internationals.

the same thing happened to me! my stupid guidance office totally messed up, and then some of my colleges even called them, asked for my midyear report, and my counselor told the college that it was MY responsibility! But I cannot send my own midyears! ugh…now all these colleges are emailing me, asking me to fax them my midyears when I do not even have access to my midyear report.
My counselor just put them in the mail like 2 days ago…but I’m so worried.

ok… I know this completely frazzled moment isn’t the time to give a responsibility lecture, and I have no idea what size school you attend, but what made you assume your counselor would know the schools you applied to needed a midyear report? It was your responsibility to tell her when you originally sent in your application that the following schools will also need a midyear report. THEN it is her responsibility to send it. If she was aware and just dropped the ball than it is not your fault and she is deflecting her being overwhelmed during this time of year. However, I do think it was bad form to throw you under the bus to the college – if that’s what she did – by calling you essentially irresponsible.

Our school is really small and so while I am not sure how they figure out what schools need midterm reports or not, but once a student fills out a form with the schools to which they are applying, everything goes out and for S, midterms were part of that.

This is my dilema: My school recently installed a new grading policy…which delayed my midyear reports from being sent. Some things we have no control over, but I’m sure everything will be fine in the end.

whoa whoa whoa…let me explain to you what happened:

our large public school has a policy where we, the students, have to “request” that our midyear forms be sent to the colleges by bringing stamped/addressed envelopes to the registrar, and pay her a $15 “processing fee.” Then, she sends the transcripts.

I, being the organized, self-conscious, responsible, student that I am, went to see the registrar as soon as I found out that there had been a MISTAKE made on my 2nd-quarter grades, which would end up going on my transcript. I immediately began working with her to remedy this, but it involved a lot of paperwork and she didn’t exactly make the process easy. This was taken care of by February 15th - the deadline that many colleges have for receiving the midyears.

So I was already in hot water, and asked the registrar to speed up things, but she said “Oh, well, now that we’ve changed your transcript, I have to order a new one and it takes about 10 days to get that printed and sent to me.” I was like, “WHATTT??” (of course I actually said something else very nicely; I have been sucking up to her throughout this whole thing trying to get her to cooperate with me here)
She told me to come back to her office in a week and then “hopefully” my transcript would be ready and then I could give her the envelopes to send.

Finally, this past Tuesday, I checked in with her, handed over the envelopes and my $, and she said the transcript was ready and she would send it out everywhere. I even tried paying her extra to send them priority/express - she said no.

Sometime during all this, Swarthmore college contacted both her and my counselor and they told Swarthmore that it was my responsibility! They gave the impression that I actually had the transcript and could just simply fax it whenever I felt like it.

Sorry if I’m being overly defensive here; I know you weren’t being judgmental or anything…I just needed to vent!

The Mid-year is really just a transcript with the 1st semester grades for grade 12 right?

I’m also in the same boat with you guys. Sent my official transcript after the semester ended, turns out the school sent it in without the first semester… hope this doesnt affect admissions.

just send it in asap. seriously.

As long as you send it in ASAP, then it won’t hurt because it’s your counselors responsibility to fill it out.

I got an email from UVA that said they needed mine so I asked my counselor about it. He said they don’t usually send them without the student asking! ARGH!!!

So I turned in a request form, and we had to pay extra money to get the new transcripts sent, and I have my fingers crossed that it got done fast! If your schools routinely do it, you’re lucky.

Um, yeah… it’s kind of your fault that you didn’t request it. Send it now and you should be fine.
