Does a summer school make up for a horrible GPA?

My friend said that he went to Andover for a summer course and learned so much stuff (didn't elaborate on what it was). His GPA is in the 3.3-3.4 range, but he says that the summer course would help immensely.

Would it?

Not unless he learned a way to bring up his GPA the next year.

Adcoms don’t care that someone can afford to go to an expensive summer school.

Unless the summer program provided course credit that his HS accepts and they decide to average in the summer course as additional classes. This is probably not going to happen though, all he can do is say he went there on his application maybe. You can’t quantify an increase in knowledge into a GPA increase.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

3.3-3.4 isn’t horrible though
