Hi! I guess the thread title is pretty self-explanatory. My situation is I am applying to Dartmouth with an intended Government major (which includes International Relations, which I want to pursue). Since I was hoping to take either Chinese or Japanese to accompany the International Relations aspect, I wanted to put Asian Studies down. But, I will also probably end up taking courses in History and Economics. Soooo, would putting Asian Studies down give me any advantage in the application process instead of History or Economics, two much more popular majors? Would it really matter? They only allow you to select three. Thanks!

Normally, intended majors do not have any effect on admissions, as students often change their mind several times as they are exposed to the various course offerings in university. If you have ECs that support an interest in a particular major, and especially if that major is more unusual, then it may help.

Eh, I'm in the high school Asian club? I'll probably be an officer for my senior year...but it really isn't one of my more passionate ECs. Thanks though! I'll probably just leave it as I originally put it down Government, History, Economics

What if I won a departmental award in Geography for best Geography student? Could a Geography major gain an edge? (probably won't end up putting it down, not that I don't like geography, just curious)

Agree with this, if you put a random major down with nothing in your application related to it...it won't do anything, really.

But like say, you're obsessed with a particular major/topic that not many know about or are interested in pursuing (such as Greek(?) or the sort) and you have EC's/awards that show you like Greek, um it probably can help quite a bit.
