has anyone done this before?

Not to my knowledge...
I know one who took 18 units, spread over four courses. (5, 5, 4, 4)

yeah my OC wouldnt let anyone take like above 15 or so...but somehow my friend got 19 and her counselor let it pass...what the heck?

well you can go back to URSA right now and enroll in another class if you want, but they HIGHLY recommend that you DONT take that many units because its such a big change and you need to adjust to college life and stuff like that. if you overload yourself, you'll probably just end up hurting your GPA and burning yourself out way early. take it easy first quarter, adjust, get comfortable, and if you feel you're ready by winter quarter, then go ahead and take 19 units. dont start diving when you dont know how to swim yet.

if you REALLY think 110% that you can handle it, then by all means log into URSA and register for another class.

Yeah, my OC said that he recommends we only take 3 classes fall quarter, which for me is 14 units.

u can always get ahead later by taking 21 units... haha. i would rather have the time to check out all the clubs instead. im only taking 13 units.

no isnt the max 19?

I plead guilty. I enrolled in 21 credits during the fall semester of my freshman year in Geo. Washington Univ. engineering. Of, boy did I struggle. I was a scholarship student and thought I could handle the same workload I did in high school with equal success. With the course load, the period of adjustment all freshmen encounter, and my robust social life, I realized by mid-term that if I didn't really buckle down, I'd be in b-i-g trouble. And although I was nearly a straight A student taking very difficult courses (graduating 4/352) and not needing any support in high school, I very gratefully accepted all the support I could muster...and I did it...but learned the lesson to take a more normal load, especially early in my college career. Lesson learned, I enjoyed increasing success as the years went on.

My recommendation...start slowly. Take no more than 15 hours your first semester. You can always bulk up later, or go to summer school on campus. There's nothing worse than being a great success in high school, then finding your legs blown out from under you right off the bat. Slow and steady wins the race. You have nothing to prove...you just want to enjoy the college experience and part of that is living to tell about it. Good luck.

i'm taking 16, uh oh.

your extra one is a fiat lux, so dont even trip about it. lol.

haha shut up, that's still 15 units without my fiat lux! haha

good personal advice from OrangeBlossom :)

he (or she) is right. i mean if u wanna study so hard the first quarter then u shoulda picked BUrkeley in the first place.

actually u can petition to take 21 units... =O

I took 22 units once (I also did 21 the following semester) at my community college which was on the semester system, and I thought that was hard enough. Next year I'm taking only 13 units in the fall. I don't see the need to overwhelm myself... However I also am slightly ahead of where I need to be, so I might be as rushed as you.

i also recommend freshmen to not overload themselves, especially during the fall quarter. trust me, if you're someone looking for a good GPA, make sure you establish that during your first year, cuz your GPA doesn't change as drastically after 3 quarters.

just remember to take an average of 15 units a quarter if you want to graduate in 4 years.

and for those who have a slightly larger unit load, don't sweat it if it's a fiat lux or if it's something like band. consider it more like cutting into your extracurricular or free time rather than carrying a tougher academic load.

btw, yes you can petition to take more than 19 units. i see some ppl do it and i dunno how they survive. i see others do it and they're always half asleep in class.
