does anybody keep a journal?

Currently, I am having various frustrations and faults with my life. I'm not really sure if I would consider this depression. But anyway, I have decided to keep an online journal to document my frustrations, experiences, and aspirations. I made my first entry just now, and hopefully, I will find the persistence to keep coming back to writing about my thoughts later on. I feel like when I put things in writing, my situation becomes much clearer, and I find it easier to draw from the texts the things that I should do to make steps in living a better life.

But that's just my thought. Basically, I started my online journal to help me grasp everything that's going on in my life, and what I can do to make it better.

Does anyone else keep a journal

P.S. I'm a guy, and I don't believe that journals are for 16 year old girls. Just throwing that out there

To be honest, keeping a journal is a great idea for anyone. Keeping track of your life and allowing yourself the ability to reflect on happenings in your daily activities is quite the luxury. I tried to do this, but haven’t kept to it. Perhaps, I will start again.

I had one from like 6th grade to sophomore year of college. cant ever really think of anything to write about anymore. thinking about starting a vlog anyway.

I have a livejournal! I used to have a xanga back in high school, but I deleted it.

I created a livejournal profile when I started college. It helps me “express myself” when I have no one else to talk to. And it keeps me sane. :D

Yeah I have a journal. I just write in it from time to time - not every day. It can definitely help. :)

I keep a journal, and I think it’s a great thing to keep. Not only can you express yourself and write about how you feel now, but later in the future you can also look back and reflect on thoughts you have had in the past.

i see journals as photographs… snapshots of your past to be archived, which means they’re records of memories. memories are one of the most valuable possessions you can have and are easily lost so sure, journals are great to keep.

i have a journal that i’ve had since freshman year of high school and now i have a tumblr and i have a secret tumblr that no one else reads.

Yes my journal helps keep me sane…if I don’t externalize my thoughts I end up having internal dialogue that goes into a sort of infinite loop and my head floats into space.

I have a blog but I don’t allow comments so it’s just one-way communications from me to others or me to myself. I haven’t written in a few years but started writing again recently as the craziness of life has quieted down.

i keep a journal (NOT a diary) and my friends make fun of me for it (jokingly and playfully) but its the one place you can go in complete confidence and draw unconditional sympathy (this sounds like i’m insane or something, but i don’t know how else to explain it haha). i’m also interested in the idea that i’ll have documented my thoughts from when i was younger and it’ll be cool to go back and read it when i’m older. i would DIE if anyone read it since it literally is full of some of my deepest secrets and feelings i probably wouldn’t share with anyone, including my best friend. but if for some horrible reason i did in fact die young, i think my family would appreciate that i left behind a journal/written account of my life so they can remember me and know how much i enjoy(ed) living. Plus people are inherently interested in other peoples’ lives (see Facebook).

also, journaling gives you waaaaaaay more control over your writing style, makes you exponentially better at writing creatively and creates your own voice, i think. it individualizes you and makes your ‘voice’ stand out from everyone else’s.

good to hear all of your opinions.

I write entries to my journal from time to time, when I have a lot of thoughts going on, or I have a feeling I don’t want to forget.
What’s the difference between a journal and a diary, btw?

there really isn’t a difference, i don’t think. it’s just that a diary sounds more feminine to me, and it gives off the impression that you write ‘dear diary, …’ for every entry which i don’t. just my two cents though

I don’t really have like a book where I write stuff in, I just sometimes write stuff down. My best friend and I used to write each other letters like most people would write in their diary. That was kind of cool. We could talk about things that we wanted each other to know but that we didn’t really want to talk about.

Now I have a blog, but I mostly upload pictures from trips and important events for my family in the States because I live in Germany. I’m thinking of starting a new blog or a vlog when I start college in the States for my friends in Germany.

Yeah, I have a Moleskine. I really like having a physical journal (as opposed to writing stuff online)–it seems more tangible, and I can write in it anywhere. But to each his own; whatever works for you!

I write 3 pages in a small notebook every night before going to sleep when I’m at school. I only started doing this about a month ago, but I find that it helps clear my head so I don’t end up worrying about a bunch of things in bed. I also find that it’s easier to be positive, because somehow it’s easier to tell when a fear is irrational when you have to physically write it out on paper. My writing is mostly a stream of consciousness type thing, but I end up writing about what happened that day usually and sometimes things that are coming up.
