Do you keep a Journal?

Do you keep a journal? If so how do you organize it? What is it for? Do you have a separate journal for each subject? What about a research journal?

Do you keep a seperate research journal for every research project? Or do you keep EVERYTHING in one journal?

Alot of college students are encouraged to keep a research journal especially if they are a history major.

What about you?

At first I thought you meant like a diary or something.

Actually I still have no clue what you're talking about.

No, not a diary at all. A journal is not where you take a page and then write everything you did that day. A journal instead is where you record your thoughts. An idea that came to your mind, any opinions. If you read something in the newspaper, you would record your thoughts in your journal, or if you watched the news then you write what you felt about such and such.

A research journal as I have learned this past night is a journal that you carry around you and when you get an idea about your research, you write it down there, and when you are reading a book about your research, then you put your ideas and thoughts there: NOT facts. Facts go elsewhere, your journal is where you put your ideas only.

=[ Sorry I keep a diary. >/ Not journal.

Too lazy for a diary although I intermittently had it. I wish I kept one. I just love reading my 6th grade diary.

I'm in Texas and we don't say "journals". We call them "spirals". Shorthand for "spiral notebook". So if I ever say spiral (I think I did in your other post) you know what I mean, okay? :P

I keep a journal. I guess its my "education" journal. I write down things for the IB or college in there. In it are alot of ideas for my extended essay I have to write for the IB. But that's it.

When I start the IB, I'll probably organize all my notes and thoughts in the same place (for our numerous research projects).

I'm not good at keeping those kind of journals.

I prefer my life journals...which, I guess could kinda be a research journal because I'll write of my day/recent life along with any ideas I have from something that struck me that day from reading or observation or whatever.

i have a diary, but i dont write as much as i'd like to in it (such as going on and on about the guy i like or w/e) out of paranoia that my parents and brothers are reading it

and yeah! i have a journat thing! its this mini spiral note book where i write down my ideas for like inventions... good jokes i hear... smart things people say... cool names i think of etc. ok so maybe not as sophisticated as yours lol

Oh oh oh, I have a cute little journal by my computer that I write random things down on. Like some of the tips you guys have put on here or if I see an essay topic I write it down or the name of a store that sells a particular shoe I want. Or a website that I need to check out later. Just whatever. Is that what you're talking about? Its cool when you're bored and you flip through it and you're like "Oh!"

I keep Notepad documents. I'm obsessed with Notepad.

I've had one called "To Do" with everything I have to do from depositing my next paycheck to studying for next year's AP's. It's in chronological order by deadline. It's more than four pages long, not including the random stuff I write down at the bottom, including lyrics to songs I like, funny things from AIM conversations, and anything else I'm thinking about.

I guess it started when I started writing my to do list down and a schedule each and every day after school in middle school on my whiteboard, but then my markers ran out and I couldn't get more right away. So I had to do it on my computer (I'm not a big fan of wasting paper), but Microsoft Word Processor (I don't have Word) freezes my computer easily, so I had use to use Notepad.

Oh dear, I'm afraid I'm not organized enough to keep a journal! I'd stop writing in it within a few days. -.-"

I keep a blog, though, about my daily life.

Yanners, the journal is the most unorganized thing ever. You write in it whenever you feel like it.

i definitely see a blurred distinction between the terms journal and diary- one could def put thoughts, ideas, revelations and such in a diary and still call it that

I keep a Journal. It also has a bunch of random scrabbles of Biology notes and anything I'm studying. It's more/less how I feel at the certain moment if I'm taking a break from studying.

It really keeps my sanity in check though. Try it some time.
