Does anyone have information about the MTAP process?

Hi there,
My son is graduating high school this June. He applied to UMD CP but was not accepted. He wants to major in Psychology. He did get accepted to UMBC but only wants to attend CP (his brother is a second year Engineering student there). We are exploring the MTAP program so he can gain admission to CP in the Spring, 2017. Does anyone have information or feedback about the program. We went to the UMD MTAP website which gave us an overview. I just want to know if anyone has used this program and if it worked for them. Thanks.

@Farekwad For Mtap students, you are required to earn 30 credits at the community college of your choice, you must also take College level English and Math, and have an overall gpa of a 3.0, this process takes at least a year. If your son wants to participant in the Mtap program, please note that he has to stay at the community college or at least a year. Thats what I am doing right now, and it is the best choice I have made.

@LustinJack12 is right. On their website it says you must complete 30 credits and maintain 3.0 gpa. It’s only if you attend a school like UMBC or George Mason, ect. that you may transfer after 1 semester. But keep in mind, if you have less than 30 credits at a university (not community college) they will look at your high school transcripts and ACT scores again and use that as part of their admission process. If you complete 30 credits your high school transcripts is not used for admission.

@LustinJack12 and collegewhat1234 Thank you for your responses. So I contacted undergraduate Admissions at CP today and they informed me if I want my son take classes by Spring 2017 as an MTAP not as a full transferred student I would have to apply for MTAP by November 15th. My son is taking two AP classes and will be taking classes at CCBC (its one of the accepted schools for MTAP) this Summer. I am thinking that he wouldn’t have to stay there for a year because after he acquires the 30 credits, they allow you to take up to 9 credits at CP while still taking classes at the Community College. So after his 30cr he will get housing at UMD (his brother is an Engineering student there) and take maybe 6 credits and the rest he will take at CCBC via online courses. Then by Fall 2017 he will be guaranteed a full transfer. Does that make sense?

Yeah I assume that would work
