UMD transfer process

Hey guys, so UMD was my #1 but I did not get in for the fall or spring semester :frowning:
I am planning on going to UMBC in the fall but still want to end up at UMD…does anyone know how exactly is the best way to go about this? I have read that I can apply after 1 semester (for Spring 2019) and use my gpa at UMBC but UMD will look at my high school stats as well. However, I think if I apply after 1 year at UMBC, they will only look at my stats from UMBC. Does anyone know about this and how I have the best chance?
Also, I am planning on majoring in CompSci but have heard a lot about certain credits not transferring…please help lol

wow I’m literally in the same situation. Maryland was my #1 but I didn’t get in and I know their compSci department is great. As of now I’m looking at UMBC which seems to be a good option as of now, and two out of states, which isn’t my preferred because of tuition and lack of diversity. However, I’ve heard that transferring computer science credits to UMD is difficult and since that is where I want to be regardless of out of state/ in state, I’m hesitant.
If it is really true I can transfer to UMD after one semester, that would be great, and I would love more information

Hey guys. I was literally in both of your guys situation too last year when i was a senior in high school. i was very close to settle on UMBC. My best piece of advice is to go to community college for the first 2-3 semesters. If you participate in MTAP you will have guaranteed admission to the computer science department. You will save tons of money and will not have to worry about whether or not you’ll get in from UMBC. The cool thing is that in those 2-3 semesters you can take a computer science class at UMD in the meantime so it will go towards your degree.

I would also advise doing the MTAP program! After taking 30 credits or more and having a gpa of 3.0 or above you would be guaranteed admission.
