Hey guys, so my title is pretty self explanatory. I did hear someone say though that the day before the day before of the SAT is the most important so I’m just kind of wondering what everyone’s input is on these important days before the SAT.
AT this point, you know what you know. There’s nothing you can do that will significantly increase your score.
So, basically, here’s How NOT to Blow It:
- make sure your paperwork is on the kitchen counter, next to the car keys that will get you there. Check to see exactly what you need, but it includes the admission ticket and a photo ID.
- next to them, put your pencils and a fully charged calculator. Do that tonight.
- make sure that you and whoever is driving has an alarm and a backup set... and for "AM", not "PM"
- dress for comfort. Depending on where you are in the country, the exam site may or may not be heavily air conditioned. So I would suggest bringing along some sort of warmer layer, just in case.
- seating will be random, not alphabetical. You may not be in a position to see a clock. Check the regulations, but if it's OK, have a watch with you. NOT an I-watch, a standard $15 at Target kind of watch.
- don't even think of studying tonight. Watch something on Netflicks, and figure about 11 pm as a bedtime.
- have something to eat in the morning!! If you can stomach food that early, something with some protein would be a plus.. say, an egg McMuffin or something similar. If that's too heavy, then Cheerios and a banana would do. Coffee does NOT count as breakfast!!!
- Bring a bottle of water for the breaks-- water fountains can be foul! Likewise, consider a protein or granola bar or an apple. Nothing too complicated, nothing messy, just something to tide you over.
- Make sure you're familiar with the directions, particularly the fill-ins in the math section. Those directions are placed right smack in the middle of a TIMED section. You'll want to know what to do with non-terminating decimals, multiple answers, and mixed numbers in particular.
- You can't have your phone with you. If you're taking the exam in your own school, you can bring it, make SURE it's off, then throw it in your locker.
-That’s all that occurs to me at the moment; I just got up
Good luck!!!
^That’s a nice list! Let me add one: tomorrow, when the test begins, the last thing to say to yourself: “Slow down, read everything, nice and easy” Try to go a little slower than you do in practice. If you can avoid the silly errors that come from hurried reading, you are far more likely to hit your personal best. And many questions that seem baffling at first reveal themselves after a few moments of panic-free thought. So give yourself a break and slow it down.
Oops, one more I forgot: make SURE you know what time to report, and where. Assume you’re driving behind my 87 year old mom, and allow LOTS of time to get to the school, hit the restroom, and get settled into your spot before the exam begins.
Good luck!
These are all helpful items, thanks!
Also (speaking from past failures at competitions and such), I would avoid eating something super greasy for breakfast that might make your stomach do weird things during the test. Fruits or eggs help me stay awake better, but things like greasy bacon sometimes just makes my stomach growl at inopportune times (but that might just be me personally).
But then again, it’s just a 3-4 hour test, and studying the night before won’t make much of a difference like @bjkmom said. Just make sure you bring everything you need.
Thank you so much for the tips! Today’s test wasn’t too bad hopefully my scores will say the same thing, too
@jellyjam hope it went well! S19 thought it wasn’t so bad either!
Thanks for all of the advice. S19 scored a 1540. 800 math. 740 English/Writing. Really should just be done but I signed him up for the October test a while back so he’s going in to see if he can top his EW score. Doesn’t seem to mind since the real pressure is off now.
