I'm taking the SAT tomorrow. Any last minute tips or theorems I should be aware of? (:

Get a decent amount of sleep(don’t go to sleep insanely early or you’ll throw your sleep pattern off) and eat breakfast. Tonight, assemble a bag with everything you’ll need for tomorrow(calculator, pencils, erasers, watch, ticket, ID, etc.) to ensure you don’t forget anything.

Morning of the SAT, read or do something that wakes your brain up to prep.

And don’t stress!

Thanks so much! I’m nervous because I really want to do well!

I’m taking the SAT tomorrow too! But I’ve also taken it before, in October. For the most part, I think you shouldn’t stress too much because it really affects your performance on the test. If you’ve studied well, that will show through, so try to relax on your last day before the SAT because whatever you try to cram in last minute likely won’t stick. Get a good amount of sleep (not too little or else you’ll be tired, not too much or else you’ll be groggy). Be prepared with all the materials they tell you to bring, and get to the testing center early, to minimize stress. Personally, I don’t like to eat breakfast in the morning because a nervous stomach plus food never really plays out well for me… so if you’re like that I’d recommend bringing snacks and water bottle to boost your energy during breaks (there are a lot more than I expected when I first took it). But if you can stomach a big breakfast, go for it. Like I said before, just don’t stress, feel confident, and remember, if it doesn’t blow over well, you usually have more chances to take the test.

Good luck!

Just try and be positive. The more positive you feel about the test, the more energized you will be while taking it, and the easier it will be. It’s really not the big, scary thing you’ve probably heard about. It’s just another test, albeit a long one. Just go out there and do your best.

P.S.: Use some nice, big, fancy words in your essay if you can. It helps. Also, make sure your response reflects the prompt.

I’ll be taking the test as well! I’m nervous too, as this is essentially my last chance to boost my test scores, which are currently on the lower end of the scores of colleges I’ll be applying to.

The night before:
I put my bag together. I did it this afternoon, so I don’t end up panicking about something petty in a few hours when there’s nothing I can do about it. I have snacks(2 boiled eggs, carrots, celery, chips), pencils (6, but that’s a little overboard) erasers, books for before the test and break, and I have comfortable clothes set out. I also like to have a few things I won’t need, but I just feel more comfortable having. For me, that’s a few pens, something to fiddle with, and lip balm. I’m planning on getting about 7 hours of sleep. I’m showering and all tonight so I don’t have to in the morning. I’ll have my phone, and I have music I’ll listen to right before the test.

The morning of:
I’m going to eat 2 boiled eggs and some rice. I always drink coffee, so I’ll have a cup, but don’t drink it unless it’s the norm for you or you aren’t able to sleep tonight. I’ll get dressed and ready, then watch a TV show or two to relax.

Essay:Quite honestly, I would only follow Cult’s advice IF you already have an extensive vocabulary or happen to think of a word that fits. If not, don’t stress using big words. Just respond to the prompt. I’m going to make my first paragraph flawless and impeccably neat, then write as quickly, coherently, and legibly as is reasonable for the rest of the essay. I’ll plan for the first two or three minutes, write like crazy for the next 20 or so, and save 2 or 3 minutes at the end to proofread. I’m not going to erase my work at all until proofreading time.

Math: I’ll have a couple formulas programmed in my calculator, but not every formula I’ve ever used. I’ll go about the problems the quickest way I know. I’m not leaving anything blank.

Writing(non-essay): I’m usually okay with it,so I’ll do my best and use the couple minutes I have left at the end to relax a little.

CR: I like to answer the questions I can without even reading the entire paragraph, then read it and answer the rest of the questions, making corrections to the ones I’ve already answered if needed.

Before the test, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE. Seriously. They’ll kick you out, cancel your scores, and possibly ban you from the SAT, ACT, and AP tests for the whole year. Just turn it off. Not vibrate, off.

On break, use the bathroom and eat a snack. Even if you don’t feel like it. Unless you’re literally about to puke, eat and use the bathroom. Sharpen pencils if you need to.

Anyway, that’s just what I do. Maybe it helps. :)
