How is the undergraduate vocal department at Hunter? If you were to choose between Hunter College or Purchase College for an undergraduate voice/opera major, which would you choose?

In January, I heard numerous singers from Hunter at auditions for a summer opera program, and they were all well prepared, trained and talented, impressively so.

Do you know which teachers are good at Hunter?
And have you heard anything about Purchase’s voice/opera program?

I would choose Purchase, and wouldn’t think twice about doing it.

I am doubtful about Purchase because I heard many bad things about the school by students who graduated from the opera department on students review.com (this forum wont let me put the link for some reason so I put it separately, students and review should be together)
Why would you choose Purchase over Hunter?
I know Purchase has superior facilities, but according to reviews by students the faculty is very bad.

Purchase has its flaws, that’s certain. But, at least it’s actually a relevant conservatory. Hunter’s music department has NO reputation whatsoever, good or bad. It’s just not very relevant.

Of all the NYC area public schools, Purchase, Stony Brook, Brooklyn, and Queens are the places with good music programs.

I know auditions are crapshoots, but those students who generally apply for Purchase look at it as their ‘safety’ school for their list of schools like Juilliard, Curtis, NEC, MSM, Eastman, etc. Those students who generally apply to Hunter or whatever, generally view it as a safety school for their list of schools like Purchase, Brooklyn, Stony, etc.
