Does anyone know much about Beijing U?

that's it...

Beijing University (Bei Da, if I remember correctly) is considered on of the top universities in China.

The process for getting into a Chinese University is completely different than the American or Canadian application process. In China, students write an entrance exam in grade 12, and based on the results of their test, and their preference for universities (they rank a list of universities in order of preference), they are matched to an university. I'm not sure what the process is for international students.

http://www.pku.edu.cn/eindex.html is the English version of their website.

If you have questions regarding academics at Beijing University, let me know; both my parents graduated from universities in China, so I could probably ask them for more information.

Bei Daxue, hen hao. Tamen shuo zhongguohua ma? could you ask them more about it? I would appreciate that so much!!

^^LOL

shuo ying yu hao ma?

Ill pretend i didnt understand any of that :P

Anyway i think alot of colleges know about good schools in China. My father went to University of Science and Technology in like the 80s before going to MIT and later caltech. I thought it was a crappy school and no one would know about it so i asked a friend who used to work with my dad at the IAS about whether i should put it down on the CommonApp. He actually knew alot about that college.

Point is that most prestigious colleges knows about good schools in China, i believe he mentioned Beijing University, Qinghua, Fudan, Zhejiang, Nanjing and some other schools.

p.s. He used to doadmissions for Princeton a long time ago when he did studies at IAS i believe.

Also i heard college admission in China is insane lol. 1 test, so it is literally do or die. Blah 2 days to take a test with Pol Sci, Physics, Biology, Chem, Math, Chinese, English...and i thought SAT was bad enough.

According to my mom, Beijing University (Bei Da) and Qing Hua University are regarded as the top, most prestigious universities in China. Beijing University has all subjects except for medicine (in China, medical schools are completely separate from universities, unlike in the US/Canada) and engineering. Qing Hua University, on the other hand, has only engineering. (I believe the two universities are located near each other.)

I don't know how Chinese universities handle international applications though. I just know that Chinese students have to write an exam testing several different subjects in grade 12, and admission to university is based solely on the results of that exam.

From what I know, Bei Da is more of the liberal arts/literature/language studies college, and Qing Hua is engineering/mathematics. So, they're like what, the Harvard and MIT of China? All in one city too like Boston....

Bei Da has pretty much every subject, except engineering. Bei Da includes math and the sciences, although from what I understand, Bei Da deals with the "theoretical" part of science (as opposed to the application of science to real life, which is found more in engineering)

my friends from china also confirm that Bei Da is "like the Harvard of China." check out some pics from the University of California study abroad link:

Peking University (i believe that's what it's officially called) is also hosting WorldMUN, the model united nations world championship, this year.

Beijing University is the most prestigious university in the PRC. Actually was ranked highly by the Times World University Rankings http://www.thes.co.uk/worldrankings/

All I know is that acupuncture guy from Becker came from Beijing University,

He taught at Harvard to!!! :)
