No, they self study for most of them.
Heâs taking something called âLiving Earthâ. The school district does not allow any student to take AP classes before 11th grade, so most students are forced to self study. Almost all the students I interview for my college had to self study for APs and math/physics competitions. Most of them were valedictorians of their school, and these are top schools in California.
Ok.
What is the benefit of him NOT taking AP physics as a class at his school? Iâm curious.
Who is forcing them to do this?
No, I donât really have such ambitions. Again, a coworkerâs daughter went to a top high school in the area and graduated with a 4.3 GPA, and she got rejected by all but 1 UCs. I am just a worried parent.
I donât know. May be they are forcing themselves to study hard and go to a good school?
I think so. Heâs gone through the AP1 content. Itâs really just very basic stuff. High school entrance exams in other countries are harder than the AP test.
And I will say againâŠwith holistic reviews of applicants, just having a top GPA and a bunch of AP courses wonât move the admissions needle at most UCs.
Exactly why I was suggesting science bowls and olympiads: participation on a team in an extracurricular activity is likely to be more helpful in a holistic evaluation than racking up self-studied AP exams.
Seems like this topic is going around in circles and there is no answer that is satisfactory for the OP. As such Iâm closing.
