I want to go to a community college and transfer but i also want to move out of the house and live in a dorm-like setting I found http://www.usca.org/ which is a student co-op for Berkeley and other students, are there any co-ops for any california community college? Also does anyone know which community college is closest to UCB?

Laney college, college of alameda, merritt college and vista college are all within 15 minutes or less of a drive from the Cal Co-ops. I reccomend Merritt.

The closest ccs to ucb are in the peralta cc district, but they really aren't very good, as they service students from berkeley, oakland and the east bay (aka 'the hood').

You really don't have to attend a cc near ucb in order to transfer there. For a list of ccs that send transfer students to ucb, visit the uc berkeley transfer pathway.

Diablo Valley College, over the hill in Concord (13 miles from Berkeley) and City College of San Francisco, across the bay (14 miles) are the best local ccs as far as number of ucb transfers.

I can't speak to the quality of the education received at these two schools.

CCs really are commuter schools and are not known to have student housing near campus.

The DVC website states that it does not have on-campus housing. Those who are LOOKING FOR A ROOM or RENTING A ROOM can fill out a housing information card at the Student Life Office. Please note: students contact the lessor directly. Any rental agreements entered into are between the students and the lessor as individuals and are not the responsibility of Diablo Valley College.

The CCSF website also states that the College does not provide residences for students. The Housing Bulletin Board is located in the Student Union, where postings can be found for students who seek rental housing. CCSF does not assume any responsibility for the condition of the rentals listed.

I believe that ccs DO provide more moral support and human resources for international students looking for housing, but they really don't do ANYTHING for regular cc students.

Don't be afraid to go to a CC that services a diverse student body, (aka. 'the hood') I would choose a peralta school any day over the teenager, whitebread DVC. Vista is literally a block away from UCB and I have known a few students that live in the UCB coops. As for the transfer statistics, Vista blows those schools out of the water when you take student bodies into account. Vista student body: 4000, transfers last year: 68. DVC: 21,000/174 SFCC:31,000/140
Also, making great strides in deghettofication Vista is changing their name to 'Berkeley City College' and moving into a new state of the art building next semester.
-whew, I swear Vista doesn't pay me, I just like the school.

Are you transferring after this semester wildebeest?

hope so :)
