My cousins and I love to compete our SAT scores.

But anyway, do you have competitive sisters, brothers, cousins, etc? And what do you guys compete on?

But anyway, do you have competitive sisters, brothers, cousins, etc? And what do you guys compete on?

I live in a very competitive family (We’re Caucasian).

Most of the competition is brought on from my Dad and he constantly compares my families scores to his brother’s family’s (my cousins) scores. He can be a real ass.

However I don’t really compete with my cousin directly. I don’t really care whether he gets a 2000 or a 2400.

I am a first generation college student. And I’m the youngest in my family including cousins, second cousins by far.

My sister (23)- went to UC berkeley and recieved a 3.7 GPA in Double Major in Sociology& Environmental Engineering
I also had 3 cousins go to CC, then transfer
2 of my cousins went to UCLA
1 of my cousins matriculated at UC San Diego, and got accepted into UC Berkeley.

I had 2 cousins apply to MIT and Stanford. They both got rejected, but they weren’t strong candidates. One of my cousins who applied had only 6 community service hours. The other was decent being CSF President, Speech and Debate Team, etc. They both got 800 SAT IIs and upper 1400s on the test (out of 1600)

COOL! :D

10char

There’s a branch of my family closely related to my own that proudly boasts five MIT graduates. Within my own branch, we’re not that academically inclined, but I’m the exception to the rule. I really have nobody to compete with, so I have to rely on my peers for competition.

Do you want to go MIT?

It’s definitely one of the ones I’m considering. I presume that familial experience with the school would boost my chances?

Damn, that is ridiculous. 5 MIT graduates. And they aren’t like 5th cousins right?

They’re my second cousins.

My family’s pretty competitive. My dad has three sisters who went to Princeton, Columbia, and Stanford. My mom’s dad went to MIT. My cousins are currently attending UPenn and Princeton, next year I’ll be at Stanford.

We’ve never compared SAT scores or anything like that though. A test’s just a test!

LOL. This weekend my cousin got back her SAT scores and she got a 2160 on her second try. And everyone is boasting that she can make it into Ivy Leagues. My other relatives made it Harvard, Stanford, and one of the UC schools (I think UC Berkeley)

Yep. And I’m stuck at the 2050s. /:
I guess next year it’s my turn to outbeat them. AS USUAL.

My older brother went to the smartest school in the borough but he then went to the community college and is failing most (all?) classes.

My sister goes to the same college and is in the nursing program. She’s doing okay.

I dream of going to the University of Chicago.

My family is not competitive at all! I’m the smartest student in the family, I have a UW gpa of 3.99 and a weighted gpa of 4.8, the next highest being a 3.3–3.5 gpa. My first try SAT scores aren’t that great (1250/1600) but my second try should be a lot better. My sister and the majority of my older cousins got in the score range of 1300-1450 out of 2400. Plus my smartest cousin only took about one or two AP classes compared to my 9. I have no one to compete with really so I just choose to compete with all students at my school who are in the top 10% of my class. Lol.

Sent from my DROIDX using CC

Nice! My school is really laid back. Most people get around 1500-1700s.

I’d estimate… my school’s general population would say a 1650+ is great, fantastic even if you get 1750+.

Yep. Same here. A kid was ****ed when he found out Stanford won’t accept him with his 1800s SAT score.

I felt bad. But I really wanted to tell him to get a reality check

My cousins in WA go to UW. Nothing else. They studied a lot during high school, since they just came to America, and basically didn’t do much besides get good grades. They didn’t even take that many AP classes. Yet, my mom has something against that family. She always says, “Oh, _______ didn’t do that, and look blah blah blah.” No offense, but I really don’t want to go to UW.

My cousins in CA are so chill (which is why I hate Washington state but love socal). One went to UCI, two are at UCLA, and one’s at Pomona. They got 2290’s on their SATs, but after getting sick of the comparisons I got a 2350 and shut my parents up.

No “big name” colleges… yet?

In 8th grade I didn’t get into the awesome smart school by one point on a test, cried for two days, scarred for life. The next year I got in by like 30 points, but I was like, “Hm. I wasn’t good enough for this school last year but now they’d like me.” I calculated I’d have to take mostly freshmen classes as a sophomore and was like, “Nahhhhhhhh I’d rather be #1 in a regular school than #80-100 in a smart school, as well as take classes with kids my age.”

Since that decision 2 years ago my mom has never stopped telling me she’ll never forgive me for it, and asks me daily if I regret it because my school is pretty… I’m not a fan.

@Mascara: Best of Luck! With that score, I’m pretty sure you can make it into any school you like!

@CSIHSIS: Same here. Got accepted to a prestigious school, then I moved, now I’m in a somewhat school with all APs, ECs, Honors class, and 12th class rank. Sweet deal

Family is not competitive at all… Not one person has gone to College from my dads side, not even my older cousins who are in their twenties, but on my moms side everyone has been really successful despite “only” going to cal poly.
