Does anyone mind to "chance" me? Thank you!

In State Female
GPA: uw-3.8, w-4.56
Rank: top 10%
AP Biology-senior yr
AP Chemistry-junior yr
AP Calculus-junior yr
Took honors in everything else.

I am doing an internship the spring semester with a local optometrist (I want to eventually go to Optometry School).

Here is what I'm afraid is going to hurt me:
SAT: 1560 (but I am registered to take it again Jan. 25)

I think both essays should be really good. My aunt proofread them and she graduated from UNC in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She kind of knew what admissions looks for in an essay and said she thought they would be a big plus for me.

Recommendation letters should be great too.

I have been a member of the following school clubs each year: Beta Club, AFS Club, FCA Club and FBLA Club.

I have lettered in Academics every year.

I was on the cheerleading team my freshman and sophomore years but then went with my passion which was swimming. I have been on the swim team my junior and senior years and lettered in varsity swimming and hope to letter in swimming again this year.

Volunteer/Community Work - I have ALOT of hours over my 4 years in high school including being an assistant cheer coach for a youth cheerleading team in youth football season.

I am very active in my youth group at church and also teach a Sunday School class during the 2nd service each week. I also have been on 3 mission trips with our youth group and gone to Christian Conferences each summer in Florida with my youth group also.

Last March, I got a job and started working.

I know my SAT scores are really going to hurt me but I'm hoping my strengths in everything else will overpower the SAT score. I read that sometimes this can happen. What does everyone think? Please be honest. Thank you! And good luck to everyone else!

I will be very surprised if you are not accepted!!! Your application sounds great, and I don’t know why you think your SAT is bad… It’s really good!

Edit: I assumed that your SAT was 1560/1600… Is it 1560/2400 instead?

Unfortunately, it’s 1560/2400. That’s why I’m so worried. Hopefully, I won’t get denied and they will defer me so I can take the SAT again in January.

Ahh, I see. Well with that SAT score I just don’t know how possible it is to get accepted, and I don’t think your ECs are strong enough to outweigh the score. Email your admissions counselor and see if you can possibly withdraw your application from EA and instead apply RD.

I’m hoping they might defer me instead of deny and give me a chance to increase my SAT scores. I sent in my ACT scores and they were very close to their average score.

Okay. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I highly doubt you’ll get anything but a rejection. I’m sorry :(

Check out this link: http://0.tqn.com/d/collegeapps/1/0/y/M/-/-/UNCChapelHill.png

It seems that UNC has accepted/wait-listed people with your scores, but I would take this graph with a grain of salt. These are reflective of both IS and OOS applicants, and it’s MUCH harder for OOS applicants to get accepted. Also, these applicants may have had some absolutely incredible other parts of their application.
