i went on a tour at ucsb last week and i asked a guy about that and he said that they accepted everyone on the waitlist last year but then they overenrolled so they have to cut back this year…idk if that means they wont accept everyone again thats just what he told me

and he also said that since everyone on the waitlist didnt get in, they are all in the same boat. because of this, its basically first come first serve by order of whoever accepted to be on the waitlist first

^ Hopefully that’s good news for me because I clicked the accept waitlist button right away. I was on the portal before the official time they said decisions would come out and they were already posted up.

^ I wonder if 2 hours after they released their decesions is considered “early” because they said they were going to release their decesions at 4:00PM. They ended up releasing them at around 2:30 and I didnt check till around 3:45 and I immediately accepted my spot.

Now that I reread my post I meant to put I accepted my waitlist spot around 1.5 hours after they released their decesions.

Blownidea: I have no idea and I don’t want to call them. I also sent an appeal with 3 new pieces of compelling information so I may get accepted based off that not the waitlist. The uncertainity is killing me lol

well it doesn’t really make sense. why would UCSB accept based solely off of who clicked first? do they at least look at the GPA or SAT before making a decision.

steles:

“and he also said that since everyone on the waitlist didnt get in, they are all in the same boat. because of this, its basically first come first serve by order of whoever accepted to be on the waitlist first.”

steles can you care to explain? what do you mean by “since everyone on the waitlist didn’t get in, they are all in the same boat”. Are you talking about this year or last year. Last year everyone got in…

kenknee: so UCSB considers us all the same? So hopefully this means UCSB will accept those who clicked early, since everyone is a “strong candidate”

luckily I clicked it when it first came out :)

I’m a bit worried now. Some stats for the waitlist this year just came out today. Apparently, 3,384 were waitlisted, compared to the 2,428 waitlisted from last year.

and ^ in response to your post, i just read the article where it lists that 3,384 people were waitlisted and it also says that they expect 3,900 students to enter the school in Fall 2011

so doesn’t that also mean our chances are lowered? :(

and also was it confirmed that last year they sent out 2,428 waitlists, around 1200 accepted then waitlist, all got in and 400 confirmed to go? or was it that 2,428 people accepted the waitlisted, 1200 got in and 400 confirmed?

i’m so confused and anxious, i just wish it was may already…

Here is what happened: around 2000 applicants were offered to be on the waitlist last year. 1200 accepted the offer, and when they all got in, only 400 actually committed to ucsb

Not neccesarily, it all depends on what the yield rate is. Last year the yield was 18.5% down from 2009. If it is is lower then they will admit a lot of people of the waitlist. Just hope for a low yield rate.
