Does anyone think the Waitlist will be as good as last year?

Edit: *off

I really want to get into UCSB. Let’s all hope the yield is low this year.

What percentage is the yield on average? Not including the one from last year, because I lot of people got in…

During a tour of UCSB with a friend who got accepted an admissions counselor told me some pretty valuable information.

As you all know, around 3400 applicants were offered a spot of the waitlist this year. The admissions counser tells me that only 1500 accepted their spots which is a lower percantage then last year. Which is great because a smaller percentage accepted their spot means less compitition. FYI last year, 50% (1200/2400) accepted their spots wheras this year only 44% accepted their spot. (1500/3400)

THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT YOU BASED ON THE ORDER YOU ACCEPTED YOUR SPOT. She told me that they will reevaluate the appicants from stratch like they did in November and decide from there.

I asked how the waitlist will look this year. She said she does not know and that it will be hard to forcast how many will get in until after May 1st.

She said be optimistic because more and more people are deciding to go to CSU’s and JC’s eventhough they got accepted to UCSB because they are cheaper which means more spots will be available for people on the waitlist.

sigh it’s either Cal Poly Pomona or UCSB for me! I am so nervous!

Am I the only one who spends all my time on YouTube looking at UCSB dorms  hahaha

I hope that we will all get IN!

Surgeon, can I just tell you I love you right now! Haha sorry for saying it like that but UCSB is my top choice as it is for many others obviously. I was wait listed too. I wanted to ask if anyone knew whether Southern Californians accept UCSB’s offer of admission more than Northern Californians because I know quite a few people who are going to UCSB from my school and I became all worried. However, I started wondering whether more Northern Californians decide not to accept, which sort of makes sense, and instead go to UC Davis.

Any thoughts?

By the way good luck everyone! I accepted my wait list offer. I guess we all just have to wait. One more week!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but do decisions come out at May 1st? or after May 1st?

If it comes out after is it spread out through the entire month or like the first week. I do not want to wait another month before knowing

I called yesterday and this is basically all the information I got.
About 1000 had accepted the waitlist offer year.
Last year, everyone who was waitlisted was ADMITTED.
However for this year they don’t know what they’re going to do. I asked if they admit based on major or if they re-evaluate the candidate and the guy said this, in exact words. “I don’t know what we’re going to do this year because this is only our second year doing it and when we did it last year we just accepted everyone off the waitlist. Call back in May and we should know.”
He also told me that all decisions will be out before May 15. So I guess all we can do is wait : /

it’s only their 2nd year using the waitlist or having a waitlist?

let’s hope they would just accept everyone off the waitlist again like last year!

2nd year having it.

having a waitlist and using a waitlist… correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t those just the same thing?

some schools have a waitlist but they sometimes never end up using it.

I hear many people are sending in appeals. Would I be at disadvantage if I don’t have an appeal to send in?

Wow, everyone’s stats are looking really good. I’m sure you guys will all get in. Good luck to everyone!

I think you’d only have an advantage if you have new and compelling information to offer, otherwise the appeal isnt gonna do anything

Even though I know we probably still have a while before we hear back from the waitlist, I’m still waiting until midnight tonight to check… LOL

But I’m still waiting up until midnight to check… LOL

Nothing changed yet.

Thank you for confirming your desire to be on the UC Santa Barbara waitlist for Fall 2011. After May 1, we will know whether more spaces are available and whether more applicants can be admitted.

We plan to make all decisions about applicants who are on the waitlist by May 31. An email will alert you that the decision is available on this website. Applicants who receive an offer of admission will be sent a letter via U.S. Mail and will have one week to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).

Answers to some of your questions about the waitlist are available in our Waitlist FAQ’s.

If a space in the UCSB freshman class for Fall 2011 does not become available and attending UC Santa Barbara is still your goal, please consider applying for transfer admission as a junior. To learn more about transferring to UCSB, please read about our transfer selection process.

Again, thank you for your interest in UC Santa Barbara. We wish you every success in achieving your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Christine N. Van Gieson
Director of Admissions

When were waitlist decisions released last year for UCSB?

I believe we will know by May 15.

I keep checking this thread rather than logging in to my SB account just so I don’t have to read another rejection… :/

the site says after may 1st, so if it were to come out it would be now
