If you audition on campus versus regional/unified does it increase your chances?

No.
…

Not necessarily. However, auditioning on campus means that 1.) the auditors may be more relaxed, 2.) you get a chance to talk with first years who have the duty of escorting you around and are usually very enthusiastic about their program, and 3.) there may be callbacks at on-campus auditions.

A similar question for soozie and other pros: what about video auditions? I’m so worried we’ll have to resort to some of those, and I just can’t imagine they go as well. Plus how do you know you’ve made one properly? They imply it doesn’t have to be high tech, but I find that hard to believe.

I wouldn’t want to send video auditions because those don’t give the auditor that chance to talk with the student, and that interview is very important. But if you do make one then the camera should be a good quality and there should be a black backdrop.

I do agree that auditioning on campus has other benefits but I was simply saying that it doesn’t affect the odds of admission whether you audition on campus or at Unifieds or other off campus sites. That said, my own kid did all campus auditions.

I personally am not into video submissions as I think the odds would be less. Some students have gotten in that way but I believe the odds are greater at live auditions. A DVD should be truly a last resort. I don’t think a DVD has to be high tech as long as it follows the stipulated guidelines and the camera is still and the sound quality is good and the space is bare.

I had to submit a video to Pace University because they don’t tour at all…and frankly, I can’t afford to fly to New York for one audition. I requested the ability to have a phone interview and Pat Woodward, the admissions lady, said it would be possible…and they also give you the opportunity to talk about yourself at the beginning of your video.

hopefully this doesn’t work against me.

zipper – my guess is that because they don’t tour, Pace is more lenient on video submissions. However, for schools that DO tour, it’s probably in an auditionee’s best to make an effort to get to the nearest audition.
