Daughter is starting to figure out her “list” for next year’s auditions, and saw that OU pre-screens everyone before any are invited to campus to audition. Looks like she could do one of these at Unified auditions or via DVD. The difference is that the DVD audition would allow her to show one minute of dancing ability; live does not screen dancing. She’s a highly trained dancer…but I don’t know that we have decent video equipment to get a good true picture of her singing ability. Any opinions on which would be the better choice? A chance to show off dance skills, or to be heard live at an audition site?

I have no idea if OU would prefer one over the other, or whether your DVD quality would not be good enough. One thought: submit a DVD early on so her dance can be showcased, and mention in your cover letter that you will be at Unifieds if they would like to hear her sing live.

I don’t think it’s too much of an advantage either way. Most people are from unifieds/regional auditions (that’s how I was called back, from North Texas Drama Auditions) but a video tape with dance would work too (and OU LOVES their dancers). It’s true that if the sound quality isn’t great I would worry but if you can’t make it to a regional audition/won’t be at unifieds, I wouldn’t worry.

Edit: I second the note from Xatty! Great idea! :)

Give Bonnie a call in the MT office. Never hurts to start a relationship early…and ask her directly. If you need any info…happy to help!
