Does anyone know of people who have gotten into musical theatre programs by video audition? I’m making every effort to try to schedule as many live auditions at I can, but for a few schools, it’s simply impossible because I have a show or a different audition on that day. Specifically, Wagner only has one audition day, and American only has one weekend (2 consecutive days). Do you think that if a school only has one audition day, they’ll be more understanding with video auditions? And how badly do you think video auditions decrease your chances?
@jessieburnett My D was accepted into a BM MT program via video audition 3 years ago. It’s preferable to audition in person if possible since I believe that allows your child to show more of their talent and personality (which doesn’t always translate as well on video), but if you can’t swing a live audition then by all means give the video a shot. I believe several others in my D’s class were accepted via video.
I think with a video audition they may be less forgiving because they know you can do it over and over and over until it’s just right. Live auditions you have one shot and that’s it.
My D was admitted to a BFA Acting program via video submission last year. It happens!
My D was admitted to a BFA MT program last year on a video submission, but I do believe that it is more difficult to be accepted via video.
@artskids- wasn’t your D’s a video callback? (For Minn Guthrie) rather than an initial submission? The point being she had been seen live 1st
She was seen live at Unifieds; videotaped for C/Bs. Both S and D have friends and/or acquaintances who were offered spots via video audition so it does happen. I think it is more difficult but that is only my opinion.
@artskids there is a current freshman in our kids program who was accepted via video. Correct, it happens.
