On the UF Institutional research page, in 2019 there were only 11 undergraduate students from the state of Maine. Do you think someone with lower test scores would be more likely to be admitted just to have more representation from Maine?
No. Once they have one student from Maine or Wyoming or Idaho, they get to claim they have “Students from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries!” Other than that, there is very little benefit to the school to taking a student from a certain state.
Public schools are more stats driven. They want the students with the highest stats. They are more concerned that they have at least one student from each county/region in the state (or maybe each high school).
