Does being Jewish help you get in?

Probably untrue, but that is what I heard.

No. (10 char)

Yeah how could that even remotely be possible?

Jews have suffered persecution for thousands of years, and they continue to suffer to this day.

Did you know that 15 percent of Americans hold strong anti-Semitic beliefs?

Well, now you do. And, I’m sure Yale knows it too.

^ What are you going on at?

The reason why being Jewish wouldn’t help get someone in is because Jews are overrepresented, not because they are discriminated against in a racial way.

Yale College is about 1/4 Jewish. Regardless, your religion, in most cases, won’t have any affect on your application.

i hope kwu’s post is sarcastic…

Being Jewish helps in the general sense that anyone from a family that highly emphasizes academic achievement has a better likelihood to perform well in school in general, no?

But that’s not restricted to Jewish people, now is it? It’s the equivalent of saying that coming from an upper-middle class background leads to more collegiate success than kids raised in poverty.

To answer your question: being Jewish won’t give YOU any particular nod.

I’m curious to know where you heard this. (Not kidding.)

The history of admissions to the Ivy League is of quotas to keep the number of Jews down.

Jews are vastly over-represented at top colleges. They make up less than 2% of the U.S population.

Ignore the other people on this thread except for kwu. Being Jewish will almost guarantee you a spot at Yale. It will also get you pre-accepted into skull-and-bones, Yale law, and you’re also pretty much assured a place on the Supreme Court.

Sirensong, do not spread false notions even with your satirical intent; some do not recognize it as such.

This is a ridiculous conversation.

I guess you’re right silverturtle, but then again if someone cannot see my sarcasm they will not be getting into Yale regardless of their religious affiliation.

My question was real because there’s a huge upswing in conspiracy theories involving Jews, such as the current idiotic one being passed around that Algerian kids are somehow being kidnapped and taken across the border to be sold so their organs can be harvested. The evil morons who spread this ****e managed to get Jews into that disgusting tale despite a complete lack of Jews in their countries, so I’m curious about the notion that there’s a Jewish “in.”

BTW, it seems you have to be Catholic to be on the Supreme Court. Except I heard - nudge, nudge - that Alito and Sotomayor are actually closet Jews waiting for a signal to unleash their agenda.

What have I done?!

I have created a monster!

Um…it’s only one page long, lol. Oh, and I love the “closet-Jew” concept.

Hey, that was just about the first thing one of my freshman roommates said to me when we met. We introduced ourselves, then were standing in our common room in Wright Hall (since renamed, I think), looking out at the Old Campus. After a minute or so, he said, “The told me back in St. Louis that this was going to be Jew Haven, but I had no idea it would be this bad.”

You know, I consider it a sign of progress that somebody could ask this question.

It is in some ways a sign of progress.
