One of my classmates got a D in AP Calculus BC first semester, but she still claims she's going to Berkeley. I thought Berkeley is really strict on grades and will rescind those with D's 99% of the time?

Yes, a D in any class in any semester of the senior year does violate the conditions of admission.

However, it means you could be rescinded, it’s not automatic. If she had some particular dramatic reason for the D, like an extreme medical condition or family emergency, it could be excused.

If she doesn’t contact admissions about this herself though, she would most likely be rescinded.

Yeah, you may want to let her know that she needs to deal with this because it does mean she’ll most likely be rescinded. Personal anecdote: student at my high school a couple years back got one D and was rescinded.
