I heard college/university campus closes on all vacations (spring, winter, and summer), so everyone in the campus has to leave or pay extra money to stay. Is this true? so our semester room and board money is only good for while school is on session?

Well, campus housing is closed for winter break, and for summer vacation you would have to apply for new housing, since everyone has moved out, but they do offer it. Spring Break you are allowed to stay in housing.

Not exactly...the dorms close during winter break...everything else stays open. To live in university housing in the summer, yes that is extra, and you have to apply to do that. (most people don't take summer classes)

what?!?! so i can't live on campus during winter breaks?! what if im staying in the states and i'm international?!

USC really should look at leaving the dorms open during winter breaks. NYU recognizes the fact that there are lots of international students (the population that USC also attracts) and leaves the dorms open. They are also in an area that needs high security. I am not familiar with what other colleges do. Some of you should petition USC to leave the dorms open during winter break.

It could be for sequirity reasons

nymph, you'll find a friend that you could go stay with during winter break, dont worry. Where are you internationally?

i am just from out of state, but all the way from Boston. I am poor so I can't really afford to buy a $300-400 plane ticket every 3 months to go back home. Anyone know how much does the dorm cost overall for the winter break?

and is it easy to find part time/seasonal job in LA?

I don't know that they offer staying in the dorms for winter break...but you can stay in the apartments if you live there. For international students, they actually have a really cool program where they match international kids with faculty members for thanksgiving and winter break, the kids are basically just absorbed into their familiy for the two weeks or whatever. I think it would be awesome, especially if you got a really cool professor to stay with or something.

For everyone else, you can always stay with a friend...that's pretty common actually.

And yes, you can easily find a job in LA.

hong kong........
well actually it's not really a problem for me, since i have relatives in socal...but i just thought with quite a large number of internationals...they would leave it opened. i didn't even know some colleges close dorms during winter! like, what if i went to another state where i have no relatives and the college closes during winter -_-"""
what about spring break?

haha i think i would like to try the faculty member thing tho...not too fond with living with that family............

nhymph: "what about spring break?"
