Question about Housing/Dorms

Hey,

I'm from Florida and my family doesn't have many financial resources. What am I going to do when Spring/Winter break rolls around and campus is closed? You can't stay on campus, right, so I'd have to fly home?

Or what would be another alternative? My parents are trying to come up with ANY excuse so I can't go to USC, so please help me become a Trojan :)

Thanks!

Well I did find out that you can stay if you live in an apartment, but the dorms are closed. I’m not sure what the advantages vs. disadvantages are of having an apartment vs. a dorm? Anyone that can help? :)

alamemommy where are youuu ? hahah (:

Hello! I don’t usually look at the dorm questions ('cause I don’t know which ones to recommend!) so I missed this one - sorry!

I think for freshmen the advantage of a dorm or suite in that it promotes meeting people and getting involved. Also, apartments tend to be a bit more expensive (but this varies depending on the particluar dorm/apt.). I think they all stay open during Spring break, but you are correct, during winter break the dorms all shut down.

Some possibilities: the winter break is about a month, so you could look for cheaper (and slower) alternatives to getting across the nation, such as a train. Watch the discount flight websites - sometimes Florida flights are pretty cheap - but you may have to book in August.

If I think of any more, I’ll post!

LMU you’re going to have to find a job and make some money if your family can’t pay for it. I work two jobs here at USC and made about $450 last semester, and $610 this semester so far, plenty to get you plane tickets for winter and summer breaks.
