Does Clemson admit by major?

On the application website, I found this

Besides SAT/ACT scores and class standing, other factors such as high school curriculum, grades, choice of major and S.C. residency are also considered.

I don't have great stats (3.5 UW, 3.7ish W, 28 ACT- hoping for a 32 in October). I'm interested in majoring in engineering (electrical or civil) or finance. If I apply as a general engineering major, will it hurt my chances of being accepted? I know some schools, like Cal Poly SLO, admit by major. It is much harder to get into SLO if you apply as a CE major rather than an accounting major.

Also, can freshmen change their major before the first day of classes begin?

Clemson definitely admits by major. They don’t want to be put in a situation where they have too many students and not enough resources in a particular major (and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be that student too fighting for classes etc…). Engineering is one of the tougher majors to get into and if you want a better chance to get in, apply for Parks, Recreation & Tourism management or communications etc… However, I wouldn’t say that it is as hard as SLO but it is more difficult. I still think that you’ll be able to get into engineering at Clemson.

You can change your major before the first day of class at orientation provided that there is room available in the major you want to switch to (PS: as a general rule, it’s always easier to switch out of engineering than to switch into engineering).

Is that actually true pierre? That if you apply to the Parks, Recreation & Tourism management major you have a better chance in being admitted

well I don’t know if it’s true or not…I just said that because PRTM has the reputation of being the easiest major on campus haha

Ok thanks!
