When collegeboard sends scores to colleges does it send the superscores?
I am wondering because the first time I took the SAT I, I think my work on the writing section was miscalculated and I got about 200 points lower than I usually do and ended up scoring 200 points higher the second time I took it (I got a 770!! I almost got an 800 but my essay was an 8... :( )

The first time I took the SAT 1 I got:
CR 680
M 650
W 570

The second time I got:
CR 640
M 700
W 770

Please help me! I definitely don't want colleges to see this 570 on the writing section!! (It's the lowest I ever got on writing in practice tests etc.)

Yup, but you have to click the Score Choice button when you send your scores to colleges, and only some schools allow it. There’ll be a note that says superscoring isn’t allowed if a school you’re applying to disallows it. There’s also a list online.

No, CB does not supersore if I understand what you are asking. You can choose not to send a test score (the whole test) but you cannot choose to leave out only certain section scores of an SAT test. In your case score choice would allow you when ordering scores sent to not send your first test entirely but it won’t allow you to just leave out the writing section.

Yes, I am certain. As to sending the first, you would be doing so only because of the 680CR since second test is 640. As to whether to send it here are some considerations:

If you are applying to a college that requires all scores, then you do not have an option, you must send both and not exercise score choice.

Check your high school to see what it puts on your official transcript sent to colleges. Many put all your scores on the transcript. Thus, even if you could exercise score choice with the College Board, it would be pointless if your high school is one of those.

For admisson, colleges either use that test with highest composite (that includes most public universities) or they superscore by using the highest section scores from multiple tests. They all say they will not use lower scores against you. Thus, you should assume they are honest and therefore the first test scores won’t hurt you if sent. (Of course, many have a hard time convincing themselves that is true despite what colleges say.)

A lot of colleges don’t even use the writing scores for admission and that includes at least two high ranks, UChicago and Georgetown, and thus any writing score no matter how good or bad has no impact one way or the other with those colleges.

I dont think my school puts SAT scores on the transcript… I will check though…

Thank you, that makes me feel better about this :)

I just really wish I hadn’t had this issue with my first writing score…
