does cornell ed make a big difference

Cornell will be a reach for me and I was wondering if applying ED will increase my chances?
My GPA is a 95 percent which is un heard of in an ivy league school but I figured ED could maybe make a difference.
I looked up statistics and 33 percent of applicants who apply ED are accepted and 15 percent of normal applicants are accepted at Cornell.
Is the ED percentage only higher because high stat students apply ED or is it because the standards are lower because of the lower amount of applicants.
THe cornell web site said ED increases your chances. Is this True?

If Cornell is really your top choice, you should apply ED. ED admit rates tend to be higher than RD because of the applicant pool, but if anything, you still have a chance of being deferred to RD if you're considered still a viable candidate for acceptance.

If you're really concerned about grades, try to pull them up before the ED date. Remember to take all your required SATs and to consider the quality of your ECs. Those who apply ED and are accepted usually already have a solid academic history to back them up. If you still believe your stats are not up to par, try to improve in the first few months of school then apply RD because ED will not increase your chances that much considering the competitive applicant pool.

95 out of 100 is completely fine if ur well-qualified and passionate in the areas that are important. Go for ED if u want the best chance. Regular if u think u can make a big pull up on ur grades by the time of Reg. GL!

Wait, what does a 95/100 translate to for uw GPA? We calculate ours differently. A 95/100 in a class is like a 4.0 almost...

95 is perfectly fine. i got a 93, which translated to a 3.8 (According to my guidance counselour). I applied as a bio major to cals, and got a guaranteed transfer. apparently, if my senior grades didnt plummet like the 1933 stock market, i would've gotten in.

so....just keep on truckin'

Now the question is...(if a 3.8 is good enough) what type of scores do you need to get in ED?

ED definitely does make a difference. I was one of two people from my school who went ED, and was accepted. About five of my friends with more or less the same stats went RD and were rejected, so if Cornell is your first choice, DEFINITELY go ED.

Plus, if you get in ED, you actually get to have a happy Christmas. ;)

By the way, PM me if you want stats.

I'm sure this is an advantage to ED because the applicant pool is small, but I got into Cornell RD without stellar SATs and with a decent GPA of 3.8 (uw) or so. I'm sure that your ECs, awards, and essays can be saving grace if your GPA still worries you.

Ya waiting for RD decisions can become a stressful hell. Getting in ED must have been like a heaven sent relaxation lol.
