wow… 4 years PE? that sucks… I think they should just give PE credits based off of a physical fitness test… so people who don’t want to… don’t have to… and people who fail… have to

3-3.5 Math (depending what you take freshman year)
3 PE (none if you do a sport…health is included in this)
2 Art

at our school, we need 2 years of PE. that meant i had to take summer pe for 6 weeks or otherwise i wouldn’t be able to take ap chem, which takes up 2 periods (thus taking up my pe period). stupid.

also, i’m in drawing this year looool because i need a performing art or something.

You guys are lucky. Our district doesn’t offer summer school so even if I wanted to skip, I wouldn’t be able to…

Oh, well our district no longer offers summer school. i live in california, and with all those budget cuts and stuff, we can’t afford it anymore. good thing i was able to go before the whole melt down =)

Most of ours are pretty basic… the main thing I think is stupid is that everyone has to take the same number of years of each subject for graduation, regardless of whether they took seventh grade math freshman year, or tenth grade math (like me). I’m in advanced math because I was good at math in elementary school, so I got put in it in middle school and now switching would mean repeating a class I already took. I’m not that good at the math I’m doing now, though, and because of the requirements, I now have to take an AP math class in my junior year, even though I don’t think I’ll do well in it.

Oh, another thing… my school offers an extensive after-school visual and performing arts program. It’s basically like attending a second school. You major in one of five subjects (I’m a theatre major), and then you take classes and do projects/performances in that. The stupid part comes in when people in this program still have to do an additional year of visual or performing arts during the school day, just like everyone else is required to, despite taking multiple semester-long classes after school every year and participating in several productions… not that this is exactly a hardship for me, it just seems pretty stupid.

1 Year of VAPA. Actually more like the whole California Public School system requires it. CalStates and US require a year of VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts)

Three math credits, FIVE English credits (more than colleges require!), half an art credits, half a computer credit, four history and social studies credits, 3.5 science credits, 2.5 health/gym credits (which are inconveniently spread out throughout four years), half a credit of “pathways” (pretty much busy work, and students in the gifted program are exempt) and half a credit of grad project, for a total of 19.5/20 credits, leaving just 9.5/9. I would have taken the science, math, history, and most of the English anyway, but after that it gets ridiculous. While I don’t mind being required to do an art or computer course, most of the half-credit offerings are silly things like Jewelery Making or Basic Computer Skills (aka How To Use MS Word). And most of the interesting courses are only offered to sophomores or juniors and up, which means they get in the way of APs.

^How does everyone get 5 English credits in 4 years?

Double up 1 year in English classes.

Eh, I met my arts requirements by CAD classes (which were dual enrollment) and I never had to worry about them.

Gym for 2 years was pointless, though.

Yea at my school we HAVE to take health, i mean really!! we have to take it in elementary, junior high, AND HS ??? Makes no sense to me… and physical science before biology. Waste of time to me. There are some other classes you have to take that I think are absolutely ridiculous.

Nah, I actually think that my school has okay requirements. For PE, I took marching band, which counts as a fine art credit too :). The state universities want 2 credits of the same foreign language, so most kids take Spanish.

Two years of PE was pretty useless, I really think there should be an exception for anyone who plays a sport.
